교도소 직업훈련생들의 만족도와 변화에 영향을 주는 요인 (Factors Influencing Prison Inmates' Satisfaction with and Changes on account of Their Vocational Training)

초록

본 연구는 6개월 혹은 1년 과정의 정예직업훈련을 이수한 259명 성인남성 수형자들을 대상으로 그들의 만족도와 내적변화를 살펴보고, 어떤 요인들이 만족도와 변화에 영향을 주는지 찾아보았다. 구체적으로, 직업훈련프로그램을 구성하는 기술교육, 사회적응교육, 종교 활동의 3개 영역과 훈련교사 및 동료에 대한 만족의 정도를 측정했다. 나아가 인구사회학 및 범죄관련 변수들과 성취동기, 응집력 변인들을 기초로 훈련생들의 만족도와 관련된 요소들을 조사했다. 또 사전․사후 검사를 실시하여 훈련기간 동안 수형자들의 도덕적 가치관, 자기의식, 자존감, 사회적 지지, 충동적 비순응성에 변화가 있었는지 분석했다. 끝으로 훈련생들의 가치관과 심리정서 및 행동의 변화량에 영향을 미치는 요인이 무엇인지 확인하였다. 훈련생들은 직업기술을 가르치는 교사에게 가장 높은 만족도를 표시했다. 기술교육의 내용과 공과 동료, 종교 활동이 그 뒤를 이었고, 사회적응교육에 대한 만족도가 가장 낮았다. 수형자들의 만족도에 가장 큰 영향력을 행사하고 있는 요인은 집단응집력이었다. 그 다음으로 개인적 특성에 속하는 종교, 연령, 성취동기가 직업훈련에 대한 만족수준을 결정하고 있었다. 대응비교 t검증에 의하면, 수형자들의 도덕적 가치관, 자기의식, 자존감, 사회적 지지는 긍정적으로 유의미하게 향상되었다. 그러나 충동적 비순응성에서는 차이가 없었다. 다중회귀분석의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 도덕적 가치관의 변화량에 영향을 주는 요인은 발견되지 않았다. 자기의식에 대한 변화에는 집단응집력과 배우자 유무가 관련되어 있었다. 집단응집력과 가족응집력은 남성들의 자존감을 높이고 충동성을 낮추는 역할을 하고 있다. 사회적 지지의 변화수치에 영향을 주는 요인은 집단응집력과 형기인 것으로 확인되었다.

영어초록

In this study, the level of satisfaction of prison inmates with the vocational training programs they were made to undergo, and the influence of such vocational training programs on their moral values, emotions, and behavior, were explored based on an analysis of 259 adult prisoners who had completed six-month- or one-year-long vocational training programs. The factors affecting the levels of their satisfaction, and the amount of changes that occurred in them, were likewise examined. The inmates' program satisfaction levels in five different areas were measured: job skills training, education for social adjustment, religious activities, job skills teacher, and classmates. The elements associated with the inmates' satisfaction were sought from among the demographic, offenses, achievement motive, group cohesiveness, and family cohesion variables. In addition, through a pre-test and a post-test, whether the inmates' moral values, self-consciousness, self-esteem, social support, and compulsiveness were changed after their completion of the vocational training programs were explored. Lastly, which among the five aforementioned variables helped bring about the changes in the inmates, if any, were identified.
The inmates or trainees were most satisfied with the trainers who taught them about job skills, followed by the contents of the job skills education, their classmates, the religious activities, and the education for social adjustment. Group cohesion was the factor that influenced the trainees' satisfaction the most. Religion, age, and achievement motive were also found to be determinants of the inmates' program satisfaction levels. The results of the paired samples' t-test showed significant positive changes in the inmates' moral values, self-consciousness, self- esteem, and social support from the pre-test to post-test. The inmates' compulsiveness, however, remained unchanged. The results of the multiple regression analyses showed that none of the variables helped bring about the changes that occurred in the inmates' moral values; that group cohesion and having a wife increased the inmates' self-consciousness; that group and family cohesion enhanced the inmates' self-esteem and decreased their compulsiveness; and that group cohesiveness and the length of imprisonment influenced the inmates' social support level.
