초록

최근 급속히 다문화사회로 진입하고 있는 한국 사회에서 타집단에 대한 이해와 존중을 다루는다문화교육의 관점의 실현은 시급한 교육 과제 중의 하나이다.
구성원 내부의 상호 이해와 존중, 다양성 인정, 공감적 이해 과정을 다루는 다문화교육의 이상은 다
원화된 사회에서 요구되는 사회과에서의 세계 시민의 자질과 방향이 같다고 할 수 있다. 다문화교육에서 문화란 매일의 생활 방식이며 이러한 문화와 학급 활동을 연결시키는 평등한 프로그램을 제공하는것이 중요하다 하겠다.
이러한 관점에서 본 연구에서는 4개의 가상 국가를 제시하고 그 국가의 사정에 입각하여 생각을 발
표하게 하고 그 국가에 속한 국제적 사례에서 국가의 입장을 옹호하게 하는 시뮬레이션 방법인‘가상
국민 되어 보기’활동을 활용한 프로그램을 구성하여 다문화적 상황을 체험시키고자 하였으며, 아동들의 인식의 변화를 살펴보았다. 각기 다른 주제로 세 차례의 협상을 진행하였고, 비판적 토의 과정을 거친 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다.
첫째, 국가는 그 국가의 문화를 대표하는 집단이라 할 때, 활동 전·후로‘국가’와‘문화’에 대한 선
호도 설문 조사 결과 개인의 직·간접적인 경험과‘영어’라는 언어가 중요한 요소로 작용하였다. 둘
째, 학습자들은 가상의 국가이지만 국가의 상징체계를 정하고 행정 부서를 조직하고 대표자 및 행정
부서 역할을 맡아 협상에 임하는 과정에서 국민으로서 소속감과 책임감을 느끼며, 정치의 의미를 체험하고 나름의 정치 참여 방법을 습득하고 있었다. 셋째, 사후 설문 문항 중 편견 및 차별에 대한 아동들의 인식은 본 활동에서 어느 가상 국가의 국민이었는가에 따라 다르게 나타나며, 각 국가의 대표자들과의 면담에서도 가상 국가의 국가 정책 및 교육의 기본 방향과 국가의 대표자의 인식이 무관하지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 3차 협상 직전에 희망하는 아동에 한해 국적을 바꾸어 봄으로써 타인의 감정과 나의 감정을 동일시하는 감정 이입의 과정을 통해 집단내의 다양성을 인식하고 차별에 대한 비판적인 시각이 형성되는 계기가 되었다.

영어초록

In Korean society, which currently is entering rapidly into the multicultural system,
the realization of the viewpoint of multicultural education that addresses understanding of and
respect for other groups is one of the urgent educational tasks.
The direction of the ideals of the multicultural education that deals with mutual understanding
and respectfulness, appreciation of diversity, sympathetic process of understanding among inner
members is the same as that of the features of the global citizen in social studies that are required
in a pluralist society.
The culture in the multicultural education is a routine daily life style including ways, it is said
to be important in the multicultural education to connect the routine daily life style to class
activities, and to provide culturally equal educational programs.
From this perspective, this study has presented 4 virtual countries, and tried to get children to
experience multicultural situations by constructing a program utilizing the activity of ‘Adopted
Country’, a simulation method that makes children present their thoughts on the basis of the
conditions of each country and advocate each country’s stance within the international cases that
belong to it. Then, this study has examined changes in the children’s recognition.
The children has undergone three occasions of negotiation in different themes, and gone
through certain courses of critical discussion. As a result, we have reached the following
conclusions.
First, given that a state is a representative group of the country’s culture, the results from the
survey on the preference of countries and cultures before and after the activity show that the
individuals’ direct and indirect experiences and the English language worked as important
elements. Second, In the course of establishing the countries’ symbolic systems though they were
virtual, organizing administrative departments, and playing roles of representatives and
administrative officials in negotiations, the learners had the sense of affiliation and
responsibilities, experienced the meaning of politics, and acquired their own ways of political
engagement.
Third, we can find out that the children’s recognition of prejudices and discriminations among
other items of the questionnaire revealed differences depending on which country the children
were affiliated with, and that the national policies and the fundamental directions of education in
the virtual countries were not unrelated to the national representatives’ recognition.
Fourth, the nationality exchange that was allowed only for those children who wanted to
change their nationality provided an opportunity to recognize diversities within groups through
the course of empathy with which they identified their own feelings with others’, and to form a
critical viewpoint of discrimination.
