This study focused in its objective on developing and carrying out a self help group program from an empowerment perspective to promote self efficacy, cope with stress and enhance the feeling of social support in non-congenital physically handicapped family caregivers and then inquiring into what effectiveness can be obtained from it.For that purpose this study posed subjects of study as to: 1) Whether or not family caregivers' participation into a self help group program is effective on promotion of their self efficacy. 2) Whether or not family caregivers' participation into a self help group program is effective on changes in their stress-coping strategies. 3) Whether or not family caregivers' participation into a self help group program is effective in improving in their feeling of social support.
The present study had recourse to a review of literature method and an quantitative analysis to approach to the above three subjects.
As aforementioned, the self help group program that was implemented from an empowerment perspective was revealed to be effective on upholding the feeling of social self efficacy, active stress coping, and enhancement of feeling of social support.
It is expected that these results would be conductive to the development of welfare service for family caregivers in the light of the fact that programs and services for them remain relatively stagnated, as compared with those of the handicapped.
