초록

초등학생의 생활을 크게 학교생활과 방과후 생활로 나누어 볼 때, 학교생활은 모든 학생에게 일률적으로 똑같이 제공되는 반면에, 방과후 생활은 초등학생 개인의 생활수준이나 주변 환경, 부모의 관심 또는 초등학생의 요구 등에 따라 많은 차이가 있다. 특히 초등학생을 둘러싼 지역사회 환경은 가장 직접적으로 초등학생의 생활에 영향을 미친다고 볼 때, 인위적이고 상업적인 환경의 도시와 읍․면 등 농촌에서의 초등학생생활은 차이가 있을 것이므로 그 실태를 비교해 봄으로써, 환경의 차이에 따른 바람직한 여가환경을 조성하고 여가활동에 대한 적절한 대책을 강구할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 또한 아동기의 효율적인 여가의 운용여부는 장래 초등학생 개개인의 인성 및 정서발달에 커다란 영향을 미칠 뿐 아니라 인격의 기초가 형성되는 시기인 만큼 우리 기성세대들이 간과해서는 안 될 중요한 연구 영역임에 틀림없다. 방과후 여가시간에 이루어지는 여러 형태의 사교육 역시 초등학생 자신이 필요로 하고 가치 있는 것으로 받아들일 수 있는 것일 때 비로소 참된 의미의 교육이 될 수 있으나, 현실적으로 무분별한 사교육 문제는 심각한 사회문제로 대두되고 있으며, 대중매체의 홍수 또한 아직 가치관이 정립되지 않은 초등학생에게 여과 없이 유포됨으로써, 초등학생이 이러한 현상들을 그대로 답습하여 책임 의식의 결여, 소비풍조의 조장, 건전하지 못한 생활자세를 형성할 우려가 있다. 그러므로 학생들에게 있어 여가의 참 뜻을 이해하고 활용할 수 있는 방법과 유형에 따른 지도는 물론 여가 장소와 시설을 갖추어 보다 즐거운 여가 환경을 조성해 주고 건전하게 여가를 활용할 수 있도록 관심과 지도가 필요하다.
이러한 여가의 교육적 의의에 착안한 본 연구의 목적은 초등학교 학생의 여가활용에 대한 조사를 통해 여가 활용 실태와 문제점을 알아봄으로써, 바람직한 여가환경 조성과 여가활용 방안을 확립하기 위한 자료의 제공과 방안의 제시에 있다.
이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 충청북도에 소재하고 있는 초등학교 중 도시․농촌 초등학생 435명을 선정한 후, 선행 연구를 기초로 연구자가 작성한 설문지를 통해 연구 자료를 수집한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다.
첫째, 평일의 여가 활동으로 가장 많은 시간을 보내는 것은 학원이나 과외공부이며, 다음으로 TV보기나 컴퓨터 게임이었다.
둘째, 여가 활용 시간 중 평일의 TV 시청은 대부분 1시간이상을 TV를 보는 데 보내는 것으로 나타났으며, 즐겨 보는 TV 프로그램은 만화 및 어린이 프로, 드라마, 스포츠, 오락 프로그램 순으로 본다고 응답하였다. 아무거나 본다고 하는 학생도 27.0%나 나타났다.
셋째, 여가 시간 활용 중 컴퓨터 게임을 안 한다고 응답한 학생이 가장 많았고, 도시지역 학생보다는 농촌지역 학생이 평일에 컴퓨터 게임을 더 많이 하는 것으로 나타났다.
넷째, 여가 시설이나 놀이 시설은 농촌지역 학생보다 도시지역 학생들이 충분하다고 생각하였다.
다섯째, 여가 활용에 대한 만족도는 전체적으로 3.76점으로 시설과 여건이 충분치 못한데도 대체로 만족하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
여섯째, 희망하는 여가 활동으로는 친구들과 놀기가 가장 많은 것으로 보아 요즘 학생들에게는 친구들과 어울려 놀 시간과 공간이 부족한 것으로 보인다.

영어초록

The life of an elementary school student can be divided into school life and life after school. The school life is same for every student but the life after school differs depending on the students' individual living standards, surroundings, parents' interests, demands of the students, and etc. Especially, when considering that the local society around the students affects directly to the lives of the students, there may be difference in the students' lives in cities of artificial and commercial environment, and agricultural towns. Therefore, it is thought comparing the statuses can form the desirable leisure environment and devise solutions appropriate for the leisure activities. Also, the efficient management for leisure time in childhood not only has big influences on human and emotional development of each elementary school student but it is also a time when the children form the basis of their personalities so it is definitely an important area that needs to be studied. Different types of private education that takes place after school can be meaningful only when the students take it as a necessary and valuable education but in the reality, the rash private education is rising as a serious social problem. The flood of mass media is exposed to the elementary students without any filtration so the students follow it and they may lack responsibility, promote consumption trend, and form undesirable lifestyle. Therefore, there need to instructions for the students so that they learn to understand the true meaning of leisure and have more enjoyable leisure time. Also. there should be people's interests and instructions in order to have leisure places and facilities for the students to enjoy their leisure time and have desirable leisure activities.
The purpose of this study that has an eye on the educational meaning of leisure is to provide data to form desirable leisure environment and establish plans of desirable leisure activities by finding out the statuses and problems of leisure through investigation on elementary school students' leisure time.
In order to achieve such purpose, the study selected 435 elementary school students in cities and agricultural towns located in Chungcheongbukdo and distributed questionnaires of the study to the students. After collecting the data, the following conclusions were made.
First, most students spent their leisure time for studying in private institutes and private tutor during the weekdays. Also, many students spent their leisure time watching the TV and playing computer games.
Second, the students spent more than 1 hour with the TV during the weekdays and they liked to watch animation, children programs, soap opera, sports, and show programs. Also, 27.0% of the students said that they watch anything.
Third, most students responded that they don't play computer games during their leisure time and students in agricultural towns tend to play computer games more than students in cities.
Fourth, students in cities think that they have enough leisure facilities and game facilities more than students in agricultural towns.
Fifth, the students showed a satisfaction level of 3.76, showing that they are satisfied even though there are not enough facilities.
Sixth, most students preferred to paly with their friends during their leisure time and this shows that the students of today do not have enough time and space to play with their friends.
