초록

특수학급은 초등학교 일반학급에서 정상아동들과 같이 교육받기가 곤란하거나 교육적 효과를 거두기 어려운 아동에게 능력에 맞는 교육을 실시함으로써 학교생활을 보다 즐겁게 하고 잠재능력을 최대한으로 계발하여 지적능력과 정의적 특성을 향상시켜 사회생활에 적응하는 전인적 발전을 도모하는데 큰 의의가 있다고 본다.
우리나라 특수학급 학급은 1974년을 기점으로 전국 시․도 교육청 단위로 1개 학급 이상씩 본격적으로 설치되기 시작하여 다양한 형태로 운영되고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 경상남도 초․중등 일반학교에 설치된 특수학급의 1987년도에 비해 10년 후인 1997년도의 실태를 비교 분석하여 특수학급에 대한 인식 수준을 비교 분석하여 의식변화 수준을 파악하고 특수학급 운영의 당면 과제와 개선방안을 모색해 보고자 한다.

1) The change of the operation actual situation of the special class
First, The student number there was the decreace of special class became the good environment for the substantial improvement of education. But the special measure for the handicapped children distributed variously is needed.
Second, The teachers having the teaching license for the handicapped are 24.10% in comparison with 1987. Still, the number of these teachers lacks greatly in comparison with the class number.
Third, It turned out that the it is desirable for the teachers in charge of the special class to understand the education process for the special class in general, reconstitute the education process according to the area condition and the children's specific educational desire etc.
Fourth, There was the complete separation of 2.88% only in the elementary school so the integrated education is pursued in comparison with 1987.
2) The comparison of the understanding level on the special class
First, It turned out that the correspondence level with the installation purpose of the special class was made positively, the educational effect of the special class was high.
Second, The goal which the education of the special class needs to go toward shows the highest response in the independence of the life area also in 1997.
Third, The width of the understanding and cooperation of the teachers taking charge of the general class was enlarged as a whole in comparison with 1987 year and it turned out that the cooperative relationship in the elementary school was better.
Fourth, In the case of the attitude to the students of the special class the trend that they are considered strange is dominated in the elementary school and the one that they are considered miserable and need to get a sympathy is dominated in the middle school.
3) The improving way of the special class operation
First, For the substantial improvement of the special class education the administrative and financial support that the government directs needs to be promoted, the educational process which is proper to the special class needs to be constituted and the development and distribution of various study materials need to be enlarged.
Second, In order to achieve the end of the special education the priority station of the qualified teachers and the obligatory training of the present office are necessary.
Third, By increasing the attention and understanding of the special class education the bias on the special class needs to be removed and the sympathy that the whole persons of society recognize and take part in needs to be formed.
