IMF 경제위기 이후 60%가 넘는 소비자들은 스스로를 하류층이라 인식할 정도로 절망감을 느끼고 있었고 이는 전반적인 저가격 추구-가격이익을 중요시 하게 되었다. 따라서 음주 빈도를 줄이거니 값싼 술로 대체하는 경향이 두드러지고 있었다.또한 건강을 중시하는 분위기, 가정으로의 복귀 성향, 여성 음주인구의 증가 등으로 인해 부드러운 소주에 대한 Needs는 점차 증가하고 있었다.산업 구성도 3차 산업의 비중이 높아감에 따라 생산, 노동 중심에서 상징과 인간을 다루는작업이 다수인 사회로 진입했고 이에 따라 음주 Needs도 스트레스 해소, 남성화가 아닌 커뮤니케이션 욕구가 강해지고 있어 기존의 진부성을 개선할 필요가 있었다.
