The Positive Effect of More Immigrants on US EconomyThe United States has been the strongest country in the world for a long time. It is a very interesting fact because the United States has had a short historical period compared to many other well developed countries such as England, Japan, and Germany. The reason that the United States has been a leader in the world is based on its economical strength. Then, what makes the economy of this country so strong? It is closely related to the characteristic of the United States. America is often called “a Melting Pot.” It is because America is built by many different immigrants. For example, America consists of Anglo Saxon, Hispanic, and Asian. Immigrants from many other countries have worked a lot and contributed to the country, having their “American Dream.” Historically speaking, immigrants usually had an obvious reason to succeed in the United States because most of them gave up to live in their home countries due to poverty or came to t Mexican immigrants. Preston (2006) says since the 1990s, there has been the biggest immigration in America’s history (p.1). The author explains that the main portion of this huge immigrant is from Mexico. These days the US government face the problem of Mexican immigrants, and politicians are concerning about whether they have to give more chances to illegal Mexican immigrants.The first positive effect that more loose immigration policy by the US government brings is solution for aging society. In practice, The United States is going toward becoming graying society. Lamm and Blank (2005) mentions that supporting retired people will be a big problem in America. The author says, “Yesterday’s baby boom becomes tomorrow’s grandparent boom.” (p.23) In other words, responsibility of young generation for the elder increases because of the lack of workers compared to retired people. The United States experienced baby boom period from right after World War Ⅱ until 1964. Therefore the baby boo are mainly caused by changing preferences, and increasing population of immigrants is contributing to these changes. Then, what is the reason that immigrants have different preferences from native American? It is largely because the main portion of immigrants is adult. Adult people are already accustomed with their own culture before coming to the US. Therefore their preferences are reflecting their culture, and these cultural differences show positive effects in the market of immigrants in the United States. To be specific, the economy depending on a few big markets by simple preference is vulnerable; however, the market based on various consumers’ demand can persist long even though a few markets are going to depression. This market diversity caused by accepting more immigrants can make well-balanced economy. To sum up, more inflow of immigrants revitalizes many markets because immigrants’ preferences on goods and services are different from Americans’ one, and as a result these newnchautegui (1998) says the increase in low-skilled immigrants is caused by the decrease in low-skilled native workers. The author argues that the reason why low-wage native workers are decreasing is related with a decrease in high school drop out among Americans (p.812). In other words, as the number of American who graduate high school increases, there has been the shortage of labor in low-wage markets, and as a result low-wage immigrants are taking that job. Therefore it is true that low-wage immigrants are offering great labor force to the US economy, and this is a positive effect because the US markets would be in trouble if low-wage immigrants did not take low-wage job. Suppose that nobody want to take a job cleaning the office room at night. Indeed, the most of people think this is menial work and wage is too low to take. However, somebody has to take this job in order to make the society run. Even though today computer and robot are taking many jobs instead of human, there stilldy familiar with it. Therefore, it is relatively easy for immigrants to accustom to American culture than in other countries. Moreover the United States consists of various ethnic groups. Indeed, American culture is the sum of many different cultures. Therefore, the American society is very open to foreigners. In the result, the facts that it is easy for immigrants to change their social status and to assimilate and the American society is very open to foreigners make foreigners to decide to immigrate to the United States.In conclusion, there has always been discussion in the immigration policy of the United States, and the US government has dealt with it. In economically speaking, accepting more immigrants impacts the US economy positively. It is largely because more immigrants can solve the aging society problem, and brings new market demands in the US economy. He grew up in the United States since he was 5 years old and graduated from Columbia university law school. He has been my role model because becoming an international lawyer has been my dream since I was child. However, I am thinking to change my dream recently due to my language problem. Any international students, who are studying at college in the United States, might have regretted at least once that they did not come to English speaking country in their early age. As the world is globalizing, many countries are getting closer than before. As a result, studying abroad in a developed country is becoming very popular in Korea. Especially in the United States, Korean students are one of the biggest international groups in many colleges. However, there is an argument about early age studying abroad because some Korean parents believe that childr, the result was not satisfying. It is mainly because of the big difference between Korean and English grammatical structure as well as educational problems. For example, Koreans can learn Japanese easily because the structure is the same. As a result, people realized the best way to improve English is studying abroad. Therefore many students, who graduated high school in Korea, go to college in the United States. However, even though they have no big difficulty to converse with native speaker, it is almost impossible to master English throughout only university education. The key to be bilingual as a Korean closely depends on how early they come to an English speaking country. Then is there any scientific evidence behind it? Yes, there is. In the article, “Instinct and learning in the same organism,” the author (2005) writes “Learning takes place at a specific time in life(a critical period), the kind of learning is preprogrammed, and what is learned can not be unlearned.” In other w’s brain is similar to sponge, and then they can accept and understand language very well. In the article, “Instinct and learning in the same organism,” the author says the adult need two different parts of brain to learn second language. It means when a person speak second language, he/she can not speak by instinct but he/she has to think in their mother tongue first before speak a second language. However, early age studying abroad makes it possible to be bilingual. As a result, early age studying abroad is closely related to success to be a good English speaker.Another advantage of early age studying abroad programs is that students can learn American culture naturally as well as language. Furthermore, being accustomed to culture is a short cut to learn language. It is largely because one country’s language reflects its culture. Then why is to know the American culture so important? It is mainly attributed to the fact that many fields in Korea such as economy, politics, and educatiotisfying. The main reason is misunderstanding of American propensity to consume. This story shows that the propensity to consume strongly reflects culture and knowing culture is very helpful in economic areas. Then what is the best way to understand another country’s culture? The best way to learn a new culture is playing with native friends. Especially, children can habituate different culture naturally because children have no preconception about the new culture which is a big obstacle to learn culture and no race discrimination. University students have some problems to get along with different race people due to race discrimination as well as language problem. As we have already known from the observation, children have a pure and open mind to be friend each other. For instance, my cousin has many American friends whom he met when he was in the elementary or middle school. He always tells me that he learned many American cultures and minds when he was a child. As he mentioned, it ih as doctor or professor and as a result school system focuses to make students intelligent people in specific areas but does not offer various activities such as art, sports and even science. As a result, children have less chance to know what their real talents are. They just follow monotonous school system. However, the United States offer many different kinds of activities and invest a lots of time of outdoor activities. Children have chance to broaden their sights and to know what their interests are. These education systems produce many different kinds of experts.
