Gaming AddictionFor our project we decided to address a very prevalent yet often overlooked problem in society. This is the problem of video game addiction. Game addiction has been around since the birth of video games. The birth of video games is often considered to have begun with the release of Pong, which was created by Bushnell and Dabney in 1972 and is widely credited to be the first mass produced video game. However, it was up until the invention of the internet in the early 90’s that game addiction became a widespread problem in modern society.The invention of the internet allowed video game companies to release games which have the capability to allow the user to compete against other players from anywhere in the world. Along with this came the birth of various online reward systems which give the user upgrades along with ego boosting statistics. These systems pull at the natural competitive nature of man, and thus, can be highly addictive. Users are easily pulled deep into th and violent scenes in shooter games activate similar parts of the brain.Video game play has been implicated as the cause of other physical and emotional health complaints. Habitual players have developed “Playstation thumb” and “Nintendoitis” repetitivestrain injuries in their arms and hands from manipulating controllers. Other documented hazards of excessive play include fatigue and headaches. Although “screen time” in general has a negative effect on children’s fitness levels, video games are perhaps not as detrimental as television. One explanation: people are less likely to snack than when watching TV because their hands are occupied. Movement-based games such as Dance Dance Revolution are also bringing physical activity into the gaming world. A serious concern is the effect video games have on sleep. According to Glenn, L.’ article, researchers recorded sleep patterns and other physiological measurements for young boys who played an exciting computer game shortly before bedtime. program will be really useful if the supervisor closely monitors and restricts the person through the program. The reason is because the addicted gamers cannot control themselves even though they get to install the time limiting program like MaukaMon. They will soon erase the program if they own the right to get rid of program.Therefore, what are some of the weaknesses of MaukaMon right now that our group might want to change in our solution? First of all, we would not be able to change the fact of offering the option of installing the software. We thought gamers still have to right to choose if they want to install the software. However, we will want to change the price. Currently, software like MaukaMon costs gamers money to purchase it. We would want to have it free already included in the game anyone is buying. Therefore, once a gamer buys a game CD they are given an option of installing the program. Further more, we would like to apply this kind of program to video game consoles. l to the second design team, who will be responsible for creating the final, detailed design documents for the software. However, since this design team will need to meet with game producers from all over the country in order to get feedback as to what the actual game producers’ wishes for the software are, certain political issues are sure to arise during this time. The entire game-producing industry is comprised of hundreds of companies from all over the United States, all of which vary in size and influence. Furthermore, it is not realistic to expect that the design team could be able to meet with each and every one of these companies and acquire their insights. This is where the politics of the gaming industry is likely to come into play. So, in order to avoid as much conflict as possible within the gaming industry, the design team will try their best to meet with a mixed batch of large, medium, and small sized companies during the design process. This will allow the design team toution does not force any action on the user other than asking them to choose whether or not they want to turn on time regulations for their game. This is also only asked of them on one occasion although the program would allow them to go back and activate it at any time. As a result, the average gamer would only recognize the existence of this program on one occasion per game if he/she chooses not to activate it at a later date.There are currently no restrictions of any kind on the amount of time a user can spend playing a video game. There is no system, voluntary or involuntary, which enables the limitation of game play. The regulatory program which we have designed will undoubtedly be successful in the reduction and prevention of video game addiction. If a user is limited in the amount of time they may spend playing per day, the likelihood that they will develop game addiction is significantly reduced. They will not feel the same desire to compete to be the best in online rankings dul.

Thus, how do children connect to these harmful sexual materials? They usually visit adult websites by themselves at school or at home, get an email from adult sites, and share materials, such as pictures and video tapes, with their friends. For example, According to Wells, many students visit pornographic Web sites and print out pictures in empty classrooms at school (240). Moreover, children get involved into sexual material through chatting.The possibility of danger for teens exists regarding online communication with a previously unknown individual. Interactive communication on the Internet, such as chat rooms, provides sexual offenders a way to access children (Wells 204). People would say that meeting people and making friends on the Internet is helpful for our children to expend their knowledge. However, Children are being negatively affected in chat rooms. According to Stefan C. Dombrowski, 33 percent of f American young people ages 8 to 18 had access to an Internet connection at home” (Lee and Chae 640). The more the children use the Internet, the more interested they become. They use a blog to meet people and share information and play a game online. It becomes a sort of addiction. A child will not be able to go even a single day without going on the Internet. In analyzing the relationships that the Internet affects negatively, it might be possible to say that there is an argument about this problem. Some might say that the use of the Internet will harm the relationship between parents and children. In the same breath, others make appeals against the former argument. They would insist that the use of the Internet does not disturb the family relationship. In regards to these arguments, research performed by Chia-Ya Liu and Feng-Yang Kuo prove the true impact that the Internet has on relationships within the family.Sook-Jung Lee, who works at the Department of Radio-Television-Film at cide blogs, bomb-making websites, and drug-related sites (Hope 308). Basically, the reason that they exist is as same as other sites on which people share their information. But the problem is that the members of those sites share improper information through their sites. These fatal influences of the Internet are so dangerous that people should get rid of them.Of course, as a counter, some might argue that the society should not limit the freedom of speech even though it is online. However, websites that provide the negative information should be banned from society as well as our children. “There is no legitimate need for sites that relay the message that suicide is acceptable” (Wheatley 28). Surprisingly, there are a lot of websites that mention the ways to commit suicide and encourage people to take their lives by themselves. In addition, through the websites, people meet each other and share information. For example, those who access to suicide websites may be affected negatively cally, the Internet is becoming more important for nearly everybody as it is the device that provides the latest news and information to us. It is amazing that people are able to do everything by using the Internet by only clicking a mouse. However, society should not ignore the negative impacts of the Internet. “The Web is changing patterns of moral behavior in many ways, with important repercussions on the development of ethical discourse” (Floridi and Sanders 201). It is true that in several parts of the Internet, the moral duties and principles are ignored by people who lack discretion. Those people are using the advantage of the Internet that does not need to be shown to anybody. Because of those people, children are in danger seriously. Children are exposed to adult sexual materials and improper materials that they are not supposed to connect to. There are many kinds of accidents because of weapons in schools. Many adolescents think that weapons can help to solve their problems. According to recent surveys more than 1 in 13 students were injured or hurt with a weapon such as a gun and knife, etc. (Sandra 2). Most of the accidents have occurred between close friends. For example, 13 year old middle school student wounded four classmates with gunshots from a 9mm semiautomatic handgun on December 6, 1999 (Gibson 5). An eye-witness said things were not serious at first. As is usually the case, the fighting started from really little things. A slight misunderstanding became a big thing treme physical violence often results. So many students are afraid to attend class because they feel that attending class is unsafe (Brener, 1). Cluster violence makes bad environment to accompany with friends and study in the school.Much of the violence comes from family problems. Some of the biggest risk factors are family factors such as family circumstances, lack of communication, child maltreatment, and residence in a violent community (Sandra 2). First of all, according to social learning theory, “adolescents are especially vulnerable to role models in their family of origin and environment,” (Shiphrah 5). This means that adolescents learn violent behavior by observing aggression which is modeled for them in their family. Children who watch their parents’ behavior assimilate character traits and behavior from their parents (Sandra 2). In addition, the child learns at an early age that hitting is right in some cases, even though the child is told that hitting is wrong. The child adt of all, the students don’t like high-handed disciplinary polices that produce lower school connectedness. The school just wants the student not to make a problem, so they bring pressure to bear upon students (Sandra 3). Because of harsh disciplinary polices, students try to get out of school. At this time, they neglect the rules in order to get away. Schools don’t think about quality of education or a climate of classroom management. If they are concerned about those things, it must be promoted students humanity and education (Sandra 4). Unfortunately, the school programs essentially don’t help students to have a good attitude or behavior.There are some ways to prevent youth violence. First, there should be open discussion about different values and second, children must be taught the legal and social rules of engagement in mainstream institutions (Daiute 13). The school should suggest the need for a context where children can speak openly about concerns and fears. For example, the sre. Family and school must have communication with children to protect them. Violence prevention programs have proved to be meaningful. Nylon and Fabric Revolution(Fashion)I’m majoring in fashion design. I have learned about history of clothing and its various materials. In human history, clothing is one of the most important parts of human life. In the past, purpose of clothing is protection of human body during hazardous activities such as hunting and traveling by providing a barrier between the skin and the environment. Because of importance of the clothing, we have developed various types of fabric materials, production tools and techniques in previous recorded history. Synthetic fabrics are textiles made from synthetic fibers such as acetate, polypropylene, spandex, chiffon, and nylon. In this paper, I’m going to talk about synthetic fabric such as nylon and how it affects our life.Presley and Jenkins said in their article “Impact of Textiles and Apparel Technology on Our Lives”, technology brought hundreds of manmade fibers-from the introduction of rayon in 1910 and acetate in 1924, through the truly synthetic fiperformance and providing smart solutions to product versatility and performance. The SmartShirt System integrates advances in textile engineering, wearable computing, and wireless data transfer to permit the collection, transmission, and analysis of personal health and lifestyle data. Vital parameters such as heart rate, respiration rate, body temperature, caloric burn, body fat, and UV exposure can be communicated to doctors from soldiers or police officers in the line of duty.One of the great issues of the twentieth century has been the arrival absorption of synthetic materials into our everyday lives; they have moved into our homes, our wardrobes and woman’s handbag, into textiles, clothing and even cosmetics. The silent synthetic revolution has swept through every territory within fashion’s empire, overturning its traditions and scattering confusion throughout its hierarchical system. According to article “Nylon: The Story of a Fashion Revolution”, before synthetic, nature’s fiberiously, totally dependent upon man-made materials, deep within the collective psyche still lingers a suspicion, in no a prejudice, against the words ‘plastic’ and ‘syntheic’.According to Barnwell (2000), Technology brought hundreds of manmade fibers-from the introduction of rayon in 1910 and acetate in 1924, through the truly synthetic fibers in mid-20th century and the myriad of modifications and new fibers toward the end of the century. I’m sure that these kinds of developments are based on form of chemistry. It is a highly specialized field that applies the principles of the basic fields of chemistry to the understanding of new materials and to their functional and esthetic modification into synthetic fibers.The study of textile chemistry begins with the knowledge of fibers themselves-both natural and synthetic. Because synthetic fibers are such an important part of today's textile business, the field includes many who are trained as polymer chemists. The interaction between textile diamine and a dicarboxylic acid, because a variety of diamines and dicarboxylic acids can be produced, there are a very large number of polyamide materials available to produce nylon fibers. The two most common versions are nylon 66 (polyhexamethylene adiamide) and nylon 6 (Polycaprolactam, a cyclic nylon intermediate). Raw materials for these are variable and sources used commercially are benzene (from coke production or oil refining), furfural (from oat hulls or corn cobs) or 1, 4-butadiene (from oil refining).Nylon was freed from wartime rationing and exploded into both the aviation world and the women's undergarment industry. Fashion magazine Gauzy and, as Vogue declared, "so enchantingly pretty," "feather soft'" nylon was easy to color and could be knitted to resemble any common form of lingerie fabric such as tricot, lace, crepe, taffeta, or voile, and it would wash "quick-as-a-wink" and "look sparkling new without ironing" nylon and materials like it including DuPont's synthetiinched waists and long skirts supported by ruffled petticoats made from dozens of yards of fabric (2000). While earlier Dior dresses incorporated built-in foundations to encourage this shape, later versions required corsetry designed for this purpose.I think synthetic fibers such as nylon forced an improbable alliance between three massive global industries, chemicals, textiles and fashion, each of which functioned on conflicting timescales and traditions. In chemicals, the making of explosives led almost accidentally to the making of nylon. Textiles, with its four thousand-year history were a slow moving, archaic beast, while fashion was an eager moth drawn to the flame of novelty.
