한국인의 색채, 청색

< 한국인의 색채, 청색 >우리나라는 4계절의 변화가 뚜렷하여 우리 조상들은 다양한 종류의 식물들과 함께 잦은 환경 변화를 경험하며 살아왔다. 자연을 지배하고 살아가려는 의식이 강한 서양과는 달리 우리 조상은 예부터 자연에 동화되어 자연에 순응하고 순리대로 살아가는 것을 미덕으로 여겼다. 이처럼 우리 민족은 자연을 중요시 여기는 생활을 해왔으면 이것은 한국의 색채의식에 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 자연이 가지는 색감 중에는 여러 가지가 있겠지만 그 중에서도 자연이라 하면 바로 떠오르는 색은 바로 청색이다. 초목의 빛깔, 하늘의 빛깔, 바다의 색 모두 청색을 띠고 있기 때문이다. 즉, 한국의 색채는 바로 청색이라고 말해도 과언이 아닐 것이다. 이러한 발언의 정당성은 오방색 중 ‘청‘이라는 색채가 가지는 전통적 의미, 그리고 우리의 전통 문화예술에 나타난 청색, 또 우리의 일상생활에서 자주 볼 수 있는 청색의 쓰임 등에서 근거를 찾을 수 있다.앞서 언급했듯이 우리나라는 세계에 몇 되지 않는 4계절의 변화가 뚜렷한 나라로서 자연이 가지는 색감의 중요성을 무시할 수 없다. 특히, 우리나라는 삼면이 바다로 둘러싸이고 평지에 비해서 산이 지배적이기 때문에 청색이 가지는 중요성은 더욱 더 크다고 할 수 있다. 또한 청색은 우리나라의 오방색 중 하나로서 그 색이 지니는 전통적 의미는 매우 크다. 한국에 음양오행사상이 전래된 이래 일상생활에서의 색채 활용에 오방색 사용이 지배적이었다. 한국의 오방색은 전통미술의 뚜렷한 특징의 하나로서, 진채의 미라고 할 수 있는 전통채색은 건물의 단청을 비롯하여 흉배(胸背), 노리개 등속의 몸치장과도 색감이 일치한다. 그처럼 오랜 전통을 지닌 색조는 남(藍),주(朱),황(黃),백(白),흑(黑)을 기본 색으로 하여 때로는 녹(綠)홍(紅),자(紫)색이 곁들어지는 색상으로 이루어졌다.) 이 중에서 청색에 해당하는 ‘남’은 초목을 상징함으로써 우리 조상들은 이를 자연의 빛깔로 인식하였고 식물의 성장과 생명의 탄생, 동시에 풍성함을 의미한다고 해석해왔다. 청색은 또한 새벽 하늘의 빛깔을 의미하기도 하여 우리 조상들은 이것을 ‘청천(靑天)’이라 불러왔다.청색은 우리나라의 전통 문화예술 작품 속에서도 흔히 볼 수 있는 색채이다. 채색화가 그려지기 시작한 삼국시대에서부터 조선시대 민화에 이르기까지 청색은 다양한 채도와 명도로 나머지 오방색과 함께 다채롭게 그려지곤 하였다. 한가지 예를 들어, 6세기에서 7세기의 대표적인 퉁구의 사신총은 방위신의 청룡, 백호, 주작, 현무, 황룡이 그려져 있으며, 이들 사신도에는 오방색이 잘 나타나 있다. 이 벽화는 주, 황, 녹, 담자, 녹청 등의 색을 배색하고 색채의 농담에서도 적색, 자주색, 녹색, 청색, 황색을 배합하고 간색으로 연주홍, 연자주색을 섞어 채색하여 색채가 다양하고 화려하다.) 이러한 청색의 사용은 문화예술 뿐만 아니라 의복, 음식 등 의식주 생활을 함에 있어서도 자주 나타나는 색이었다. 고구려와 백제, 신라의 복색 제도에서 흔히 찾아볼 수 있는 보편적인 색채가 청색이었으며 이는 음양오행의 상징성외에도 우리 고유의 민속적인 상징성을 지니며 사용되기도 하였다. 뿐만 아니라, 식생활에 있어서도 우리 민족들은 각종 나물을 자주 섭취하였기 때문에 음식에 쓰이는 색에 있어서도 청색이 주로 나타났다. 이것으로 미루어 보아 우리나라는 민족적으로 오랜 기간 동안 청색을 선호하고 사용하여 왔음이 드러난다.최근 일본 ‘신(新)에너지 및 산업기술 종합개발기구 가 무사시노(武藏野) 미술대학에 의뢰해 각 국의 미술학도들을 대상으로 조사한 결과, 한국인이 가장 선호하는 색채는 푸른색인 것으로 나타났다.) 이처럼 우리나라는 현재까지도 청색을 중요시하며 선호하는 경향을 띠고 있음을 이 조사결과를 통하여 명백하게 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 선호의식은 우리 주변의 디자인 등만 보아도 쉽게 확인할 수 있다. 이전에 비하여 색채가 세분화되고 다양화되어진 요즘, 우리의 전통색인 청색도 다양한 채도와 명도로 세분화되어 여러 가지 용도로 다채롭게 쓰이고 있다. 건축물이나 실내 인테리어에서도 청색이 자주 쓰이는 모습을 볼 수 있으며 의복에 있어서도 우리의 전통의상에서 현대에는 서양화된 의복으로 바뀌었음에도 불구하고 여전히 청색이 다양하게 쓰이는 것을 발견할 수 있다.

Legal AbortionWhen women became pregnant in the past, they had no choice but to give birth to the baby, whether they wanted a child or not. Nevertheless, it is completely different nowadays. Due to the development of science and technology, an unborn baby can be removed from the woman’s body before a certain number of months pass by. This kind of removal of the baby, which is called an abortion, has been a very controversial issue for people all around the world ever since it became possible. Many people say that abortion should be illegal, mostly because of religious and ethical beliefs. Also, the majority of people who are against abortion assert that abortion is a type of murder. However, in the meantime, there are also many people who have exactly the opposite point of view, people who think that abortion should be legal. In my opinion, abortion is not murder and it should be legal for several reasons; women have the right to control their body, women have the right to choose and mDefense, point2, counterpoint #1) At this point, I must indicate that these statements are not true. Of course, I agree that the fetus is alive, due to the facts that its organs of the body produces energy and the energy causes its cells divide, multiply, and grow. (McKinley, #1. ¶1) However, the assertion of what pro-life supporters said about the fetus being a human being is wrong. A very premature baby may be alive, but it is not a human being. The reason for this is that the fetus is not independent. It is completely dependent on the mother’s nutrients and oxygen in order to exist. Whatever the mother does to her body has an effect on the fetus immediately. (McKinley, #4. ¶1) Therefore, when people who are against abortion say that abortion is murder, they are absolutely wrong.The fact that abortion is not murder is a strong point for supporting the people who think abortion should be legal. In addition, there are several other reasons for why abortion should not be against the lawerson. Anti-abortionists argue that a newborn baby is also dependent on the mother but no one says that it should be legal to kill a newborn baby. Of course a newborn baby is also dependent, but it does not depend on the mother only because it is no longer a part of the mother’s body. If the mother cannot care for the baby, someone else can take care of it and still the baby could live. However, a fetus is dependent differently from a newborn baby because it is a part of the mother’s body. For example, if the mother starves, the fetus has no choice but to starve along with its mother, and if the mother dies, the fetus dies, too. Therefore, the fetus is a part of the woman’s body and nobody can tell what women are allowed and not allowed to do with their own bodies.Next, women have a right to make decisions on what they think is best for them. The United States Constitution protects fundamental human rights and reproductive freedom, which includes a woman’s right to choose whether or noon on what they think is best for themselves as long as it does not interfere with the rights or freedom of another person.Finally, abortion should be legal because it prevents many unwanted babies coming into the world. Preventing unwanted babies being born reduces many unhappy lives of not only the children but also the mothers of the babies who didn’t want to become mothers. For example, it is possible for a woman to become pregnant because of rape. In that case, if abortion were illegal, the woman would have no choice but to bear the baby, even though it is against her will. Therefore, we must think about the consequences of this kind of situation. Would the baby, who was unwanted by the mother, be able to live a normal happy life? I would say not. What a newborn baby needs the most is caring and loving from the mother. Nonetheless, the mother would not be able to give the treatment and care that the baby needs because she does not love the baby. If abortion were illegal and women rgument about abortion being murder is not a fact, and abortion should be legal because of women’s right to control their bodies, women’s right to choose, and the prevention of many unhappy lives. I agree that abortion is not a wonderful thing. In fact, it is a tragedy. For most women, deciding to have an abortion is the most difficult decision in their lives. No woman in the world would ever go through an abortion happily or just for fun. However, whether it is a tragedy or not, it must be the women who have the right to decide what to do with their own bodies and the rest of their lives. Several pro-life supporters worry that if abortion were legal, women would be less careful about their sexual relationships and create more unplanned pregnancies. Nevertheless, abortion is not something women would ever regard lightly or be thoughtless about. Women Gain PowerThroughout the years, women characters in Hollywood movies have always appeared as dependent and powerless, when compared with men. That is because until recently, most people believed that men had to be stronger than women and therefore, men were responsible for protecting women. However, nowadays more and more Hollywood actresses are appearing as strong, tough, and independent women. Movies such as “G.I. Jane” (1997), “Charlie’s Angels” (2000), and “Enough” (2002) are a few examples of movies with strong women characters in the main role. The women characters in these movies show that women are no longer as weak and reliant as people used to think they were.In “G.I. Jane”, Jordan O’Neal (Demi Moore) is an ambitious woman who, with encouragement from US Senator Lillian DeHaven, decides to go through the toughest, most difficult military training program in the U.S., the Navy SEAL. Even though it is very difficult for a woman to survive in the Navy SEAL training, O’Neal handles it efficiently and after going through a lot of abuse and discrimination, she succeeds in surviving the whole training and becomes one of the army. In the movie, O’Neal is a woman who has equal ability to men and ability that is needed to go through the military training program. Therefore, she becomes very frustrated and angry towards the discrimination she receives for being a female. One of her lines during the movie, “I just want you to treat me as the same as the other guys, not more or less” reveals her desire to be treated as an equal. The movie indicates that strong women can be as efficient in the army as men and that they deserve to be treated with equal respect.In “Charlie’s Angels”, which was released in 2000, the three Angels, Natalie (Cameron Diaz), Dylan (Drew Barrymore), and Alex (Lucy Liu) set out to rescue their boss, Charlie, when they find out that an enemy is trying to kill him. After going through many obstacles and confronting the enemy, they get rid of him and succeed in keeping Charlie safe. In this movie, Natalie, Dylan, and Alex are treated as women who are physically stronger and even more powerful than an average man is. Even though the three women work for a man, instead of relying on Charlie, they end up fighting for him to save his life. Furthermore, the Angels appear to be as almost perfect in every way; physically powerful, intelligent, and stunningly attractive. By looking at the fighting action scenes between the men characters and the angels, it is clear that the strong women characters in this movie are in a higher position than men.In “Enough”, it turns out that Slim’s used-to-be-perfect husband, Mitch, is actually having an affair with another woman and is also an abusive psychopath. Afraid that Mitch will do harm to herself and her daughter Grace, Slim runs away from him. However, always being found somehow by Mitch, Slim decides it is time to stop hiding and takes matters into her own hands. Slim trains hard in order to fight her husband back. Finally, she becomes free. What makes Slim different is that she transforms herself into a different character during the movie. She turns herself from an effeminate and reliant abused wife into a tough and independent woman. By showing how Slim stops running away from her problem and starts to fight back, the movie tries to tell its audience that any woman is capable of solving her own problems and that women do not always need protection as much as people think they do.The strong women characters that appear in the three movies “G.I. Jane”, “Charlie’s Angels”, and “Enough” show us that women can be just as tough and strong as men. For a long time, Hollywood movies with powerful and independent women characters were hardly even made, let alone presented to the world. Nevertheless, these days it has become much easier to find strong woman characters in movies. 데님, 그 속에는 무언가 특별한 것이 있다.길거리에 나와 있는 수많은 젊은이들, 패션도 가지각색이다. 미니스커트, 롱니트 등 최신 유행하는 스타일의 의상들에서부터 남방, 면바지 등의 베이직한 스타일, 각자 개성을 표현하기 위한 스카프, 모자, 액세서리 등의 다양한 소품들까지... 한나절만 번화가 중심에 나와 있어도 젊은이들의 최근 패션 트렌드를 한눈에 파악할 수 있다. 그 중에서도 늘 변함없이 꾸준히 사랑받는 아이템이 있다면, 그것은 바로 청바지. 일명 데님이라는 소재로 만들어진 청바지는 예나 지금이나 젊은이들 사이에서 유행의 흐름을 타지 않으면서 동시에 항상 유행하는 아이템 중 하나이다. 청바지뿐만이 아니다. 청자켓, 청모자부터 시작하여 최근에는 청코트, 청으로 만든 운동화까지 등장하여 데님의 변함없는 인기를 과시한다. 그렇다면 데님이 이토록 꾸준히 사랑받는 이유에는 무언가 특별한 이유가 있을 것이다. 몇 십 년 동안 변함없는 인기를 누리는 데님, 그것이 탄생해서 발전하기까지의 배경과 그 소재와 색의 특성을 파악하고 데님이 이용된 의상과 소품의 다양한 사례를 알아보는 등 데님이 패션의 대표 아이템으로 자리 잡을 수밖에 없는 이유가 과연 무엇인지 살펴본 후, 데님의 색과 소재의 특성을 이용한 새로운 아이디어를 제시해 보도록 한다.1. 청바지, 그 탄생의 비밀을 밝히다.데님은 그 소재나 색의 독특함만큼이나 독특한 유래를 가지고 있는데 이것은 그 소재가 쓰이는 청바지의 발생에서 시작되었다. 19세기 중반, 샌프란시스코 지역에 많은 금이 발견되었고 사람들은 자연히 이 금을 캐러 각지에서 몰려들었다. 당시, 미국의 천막 천 생산업자였던 청년 리바이 스트라우스는 이곳에서 천막을 만들어 팔면 돈을 많이 벌 수 있을 것이라는 부푼 희망을 가지고 샌프란시스코를 찾았고, 많은 천막용 천을 생산하였으나 그의 예상과는 달리 납품길이 막혀버리는 바람에 생산 주문 받은 천을 팔지 못하였다. 쓸모가 없어져버린 천막 천과 엄청난 양의 빚만을 떠안게 된 스트라우스는 어느 날 주점에 들렀다고 이것이 바로 청바지의 시초가 되었다. 하지만 천막용 천으로 만든 바지는 튼튼하다는 장점 대신 무겁고 너무 거칠어서 작업하기가 힘들다는 단점이 있었으니, 이것을 보완하기 위해 스트라우스는 또 한 번의 변화를 시도하게 된 것이다.)이 당시의 바지는 푸른색은 아니었고 회색의 빗깔을 띠거나 갈색 등의 색조를 띠었다고 한다. 청바지의 색이 지금의 청색으로 만들어진 것은 유럽에서 수입해온 ‘서지’라는 천에 인디고로 염색한 데님을 사용하면서 부터이다. 데님은 그 특유의 직물 제조법 때문에 청바지 특유의 청색을 띠었고 당시의 염색기술이 발달하지 못해 시간이 지나면서 점차 물이 빠졌었다. 이렇게 물이 빠지면서 색이 흐려지는 것이 특징이었던 청바지는 작업의 노력과 세월의 흔적이 보인다 하여 오히려 더 큰 인기를 불러 일으켰고 따라서 염색기술이 발달한 지금은 일부러 물을 빼는 작업을 하여 청바지 특유의 물 빠진 청색을 만들어내는 것이다.이러한 과정을 거쳐 탄생하게 된 청바지는 그야말로 폭발적인 인기를 끌어보았고 젊은이들의 하나의 패션 코드문화로 자리 잡게 된 것이다.)2. 데님은 절대 죽지 않는다.그렇다면 청바지가 이토록 폭발적인 인기를 끌게 된 이유가 과연 무엇일까? 단순히 질기고 튼튼하고 편해서는 분명 아닐 것이다. 그 원인을 알기 위해서는 이쯤에서 먼저 청바지에서 느껴지는 청색의 특성에 대해서 먼저 알아볼 필요가 있다.원래 청색은 오행설에서는 봄을 말하며 해 뜨는 동쪽을 가리키므로 밞음, 소생, 영원, 희망, 조화, 진실, 덕을 상징한다. 한편, 파란색 옷은 차분하며, 일반적으로 기호도가 높고 야무져 보이며, 연상되는 사물에 나쁜 이미지가 없다고 한다. 배색하기 쉽다는 이유로 사용빈도도 높아 일반적으로 현재까지도 작업복에 파란색이 많이 쓰이고 있다. 채도가 낮고 짙은 색의 청색은 차분하고 수수해 보이는 특성이 있으므로 일반적으로 중년층이 많이 선호하는 반면, 밝은 청색은 반대로 활동적이면서도 자유로워 보여서 연령대가 젊은 사람들에게 많이 선호된다.젊음, 순수, 자유, 희 힘으로 자신의 일을 헤쳐 나갈 줄 아는, 자신에 대해 주인이 되는 농부들의 자유롭고 구속 없는 생활양식을 대변했다. 이것은 꼭 젊은 사람들이 입었을 때만 해당되는 것은 아니다. 청바지를 젊음의 상징이라 부르기는 하지만 실제로 서양에서는 남녀노소에 관계없이 아이들부터 노인세대까지 다양한 연령층이 모두 즐겨 입는 보편적인 아이템이다. 같은 청바지라도 사람들이 각자 스스로 원하는 스타일로 선택해서 입기 때문에 연령집단과 그 사람들의 생활양식을 표현한다고 볼 수 있다. 또한, 청바지는 비록 공동체의 표징이지만 개인의 개성에 알맞게 만들어져 아주 세련되게 재단되거나, 빨아서 바래게 하거나 올을 풀리게 한 형태로도 다양하게 애용되고 있어 자신의 개성을 뽐내고 패션 감각을 살리고자 하는 사람들의 욕구를 만족시키기에도 충분하다.)이처럼 청바지가 그렇게 큰 인기를 누리는 데에는 청색 의복이 무난하면서도 세련된 색이기 때문에 많은 사람들이 의복의 색으로 선호한다는 것과 데님이 튼튼하면서도 편안한 독특한 소재라는 것, 또 다양한 디자인으로 재단되어 개성을 마음껏 표출할 수 있다는 장점까지 삼박자를 고루 갖추었기 때문이라고 볼 수 있다. 또 특정한 집단이 아닌 연령층에 관계없이 누구나 편하게 소화할 수 있는 의상으로 만들어졌으면서도 동시에 어떤 디자인이냐에 따라 특별하게 느껴질 수도 있기 때문에 ‘누구나 입는 청바지’ 이면서도 또 동시에 ‘나만이 입는 청바지’가 될 수 있다는 크나큰 매력을 지니고 있는 패션 아이템, 그것이 바로 청바지의 꾸준한 인기의 비결일 것이다.그렇다고 청바지가 청색만 있는 것은 아니다. 애초에 데님이라는 소재의 특성과 그 직조법 때문에 청색으로 만들어졌지만 그 후에 블랙진, 화이트진, 레드진 그 외에도 다양한 색을 가진 진들이 등장하기도 하였다. 소재는 여전히 같고 색만 달라졌을 뿐이지만 그 색에 따라 느껴지는 분위기는 매우 판이하다. 블루진 다음으로 소비자들 사이에서 가장 인기 있는 블랙진은 그 색만큼이나 강한 분위기가 느껴진다. 블랙은 야성적인 느낌을 화이트진은 블랙진과는 반대로 아주 밝은 느낌을 주고 여성스러워 보이는 색이다. 흰색의 순수함, 밝음과 데님의 활동적이고 캐주얼한 느낌이 어우러져 여성스러우면서도 발랄한 느낌을 줄 수 있어 젊은 여성들이 많이 선호한다. 레드진은 그 색이 블루진과 정 반대의 색이고 다소 소화하기 어렵다는 점 때문에 보기 힘든 색의 진이다. 레드진은 블루진의 무난함과는 반대로 눈에 띄고 화려해 보인다. 붉은 색의 열정과 패기가 느껴지고 적절히 코디하면 세련되어 보일 수도 있으나 자칫 잘못하면 촌스러워 보이기 가장 쉬운 아이템이 또 바로 레드진이다. 따라서 레드진은 일반인들 보다는 연예인이나 패션리더들이 많이 입는다.)3. 데님의 종류는 끝이 없다.이렇게 디자인도 다양하고 색도 다양한 데님, 그것이 이용된 사례도 무궁무진하다. 의류뿐만이 아니라 액세서리, 문구류, 소품, 가구까지 그 쓰임은 점점 다양해지고 있다. 먼저 데님이 청바지의 소재로 만들어지기 시작한 만큼 데님을 이용한 다양한 의류 사례부터 살펴보겠다.1) 청바지의 대표 브랜드 리바이스의 다양한 디자인과 색상의 청바지.2) 화이트진은 일반 청바지에 비해서 여성스러움이 돋보여 많은 여성들이 찾는 아이템이다.위에서 설명하였듯이 같은 청바지라고 해서 다 똑같은 것은 아니다. 처음에는 모양도 색도 다 비슷하게 만들어지던 청바지도 이제는 다양한 디자인과 색깔로 만들어져 다양한 소비자의 욕구를 만족시켜 주고 있다. 왼쪽의 그림과 같이 청색, 흑색, 백색, 심지어는 갈색까지 다양한 진의 색이 등장하였고 그 디자인 또한 무궁무진하다.데님은 청바지 외에도 다른 의류를 만드는데도 많이 쓰인다. 청재킷이나 청치마는 이미 젊은이들 사이에서 일상적인 코디 아이템이 되어버렸고 그 외에도 데님으로 만든 운동화나 가방 등의 작은 패션 소품도 데님으로 만들어지곤 한다.3) 블랙데님으로 만든 재킷, 데님모자, 데님운동화, 데님으로 장식한 부츠 등 청바지 외에도 다양한 의류 아이템이 등장하고 있다.4) 데님으로 만든 의류나 패션 소품 아이템이 점점 다양해지이어리 수첩도 겉표지를 데님으로 씌워서 판매하기도 하였고, 청으로 만든 목걸이, 팔찌 등의 액세서리도 등장하고 있다. 또, 이제는 작은 소품에서도 모자라 소파 커버를 데님으로 씌우거나 커튼의 소재를 데님으로 하는 등 주거공간에 쓰이는 가구 등에도 데님이 사용되고 있어 그 소재의 활용도가 날로 높아져가고 있음을 알 수 있다.5) 데님으로 만든 다이어리와 지갑 등 데님의 활용도를 높인 패션 아이템들이 다양해지고 있다.6) 데님으로 만든 팔찌와 목걸이 지갑 등의 독특한 액세서리도 만들어진다.7) 데님 커버를 씌운 소파와 테이블 커버가 독특하면서도 밝은 실내 분위기를 조성한다.4. 데님으로 멀티-레스토랑을 만들다.이처럼 다양한 분야에 활용되는 데님 소재를 또 다른 방법으로 이용할 방법을 모색해 보았다. 데님 특유의 건강하고 편안하면서도 활동적인 느낌을 살려 인테리어에 활용해 보면 어떨까. 이미 데님을 이용한 테이블 커버, 의자, 소파 등의 인테리어 소품은 등장하였으니 충분히 가능할 것이다. 하지만 일반 의류 매장 등의 샵이 아닌 의류나 액세서리와는 전혀 관계없는 레스토랑에 데님을 활용한 획기적인 인테리어를 해보는 것이다.4-1. 데님을 이용한 아트 월가구류뿐만 아니라 벽의 마감재로도 데님을 활용해 볼 수 있다. 벽면 전체를 데님으로 덮어씌운다면 다소 어둡고 무거워 보일 우려가 있으므로 벽의 일부를 데님 소재를 이용하여 아트 월을 만들어 볼 수도 있을 것이다. 이러한 아트 월을 레스토랑의 벽에 만들어 보는 것이다. 이럴 경우에는 푸른 계열의 데님 보다는 약간 붉은 빛이 도는 데님을 활용한다면 식욕을 돋우는 동시에 편안한 분위기 연출이 가능할 것이다. 또 아트월을 향해 악센트 라이트 조명을 비춰주어 그 색을 살리는 동시에 데님 특유의 재질감도 느낄 수 있게 해주는 것도 좋은 방법일 것이다. 곳곳에 아트 월을 여러 개 만드는 것 보다 실내 중심부에 커다란 아트월을 하나만 만들어 focal point를 둠으로써 시선을 집중시키는 것이 인테리어가 돋보이는 효과적인 방법이다.레이다.

Among the many problems Korea has to solve, the educational problem is probably one of the biggest ones. One of the biggest educational problems in Korea is that the Korean education system is made to drive Korean students to compete with each other. For one thing, every single exam is graded and ranked in order to let all the students know how they’re doing compared to the rest of their classmates. Also, there are quite a number of teachers that treat their students depending on how good their grades are, which, in my opinion, is very unfair. For instance, when I was first place in ranking of an important exam, I remember that the teachers went easy on me almost every time I was late to school.
