Asceticism, in some ways, transcends this spectrum of immersion and can be seen as the very pinnacle of religious adherence. The ascetic is one who practices austere self-discipline, voluntarily undertaken, in order to achieve a higher or spiritual ideal. Most major religions possess their own community of ascetics or individuals that strictly adhere to certain ascetic principles. This consistency may stem from the fact that most major religions preach ascetic ideals such as the temporal nature of material, worldly possessions and the need for discipline. Ascetics predominantly follow two basic universal principles - renunciation and self-discipline. Yet, their goals and practices differ based on their religious and/or philosophical affiliations.
INDO – PAK CONFLICTWhen a person walks on the streets of Kashmir in the evenings, he fears death stalking him. Whenever India takes on Pakistan in a cricket match, there are over one thousand armed security officers at the stadium. When one country achieves height in either intelligence, power, military or science, the other puts all its efforts to try making itself more advanced in those fields. As it stands today, the hatred among the people of the two countries respectively has caused an International issue to arise. The two nations were once united by history but now divided by politics. The ethnic problem existing amongst the people of India and Pakistan has created many unnecessary controversial issues over the last fifty years.Back in the 1400’s, India’s connection with the west had predominantly been related to trade. Amongst the European countries, Portuguese were the first to establish themselves in India and the last of the European to leave. The East India Company charteredPundit Jawaharlal Nehru became the first prime minister and Dr.Rajendra Prasad became the first president of the country. The British rule had finally come to an end. The people of India had their first taste of freedom (http://www.cnn.com/WORLD).However, The British left back a great impact and that was the partition of India. A new country was formed that was mainly inhabited by Muslims. It was named Pakistan. Muhammad Ali Jinnah became the governor-general of the new nation and Liaquat Ali Khan became the Prime Minister. The freedom of India and Pakistan from the British rule was the beginning of another era filled with chaos, confusion, hatred and conflict. The majority of the population in India at that time was the Hindus and the majority in Pakistan was Muslims. The Hindus and the Muslims didn’t go along well. Their religious beliefs were totally opposite e.g. The Hindus believed in idol worship while the Muslims were against it, The Hindus believed in cremating (incinerate) the was fought in Kargil (A part of Kashmir). The Pakistani infiltrators crossed the Line of Control (L.O.C) and were quickly cited by the Indian Army. On 27th of May 1999 India and Pakistan engaged in an undeclared war (http://news.indiainfo.com). The war was fought on great heights, almost 17,000 feet above sea level. Though the war didn’t last a long time, the consequences were massive.All this could have been avoided if there were not any grudges among the people. Had the people of the two nations respected each other’s thoughts and treated everyone with equal rights, we would not have seen this dreaded blood shed happen. The mutual understanding that is required to keep a stable equilibrium is not present. Today India and Pakistan are Nuclear power possessing countries. Perhaps India's most legitimate reason for blocking the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) is the national security threat posed by the treaty. Pakistan is today regarded as India's chief security threat. To insure that there is a certain limit to which the people must abide. When one exceeds that limit, action needs to be taken in the highest degree of approach.Looking at this altogether, one can see how much this hatred among the people has caused a great deal of tension in the society as well as the neighboring nations to rise. India and Pakistan must reconcile their internal issue of ethnicity and establish a new stable relationship of trust and peace. To avoid further deterioration, a recovery step must be taken immediately. In the Indo-Pak relationship, Kashmir is the master key to all issues and real stumbling block. The whole US pressure is that Pakistan forgets about it and that the two countries work for confidence building by concentrating on secondary issues. This is no new approach. US have successfully employed this strategy in the Palestine, and want to repeat it in Kashmir ( HYPERLINK "http://www.jamaat.org" http://www.jamaat.org).Other good ways to improve on the present ethnic pis conflict that would eventually lead us into violence if we don’t react appropriately to it in time. One of the greatest freedom fighters of India and popularly know as “The Father of The Nation” Mahatma Gandhi said: “Nonviolence is the first article of my faith. It is the last article of my faith. But I had to make my choice. I believe nonviolence is infinitely superior to violence, forgiveness is manlier than punishment, strength does not come from physical capacity, and it comes from indomitable will. We have better work to do, a better mission to deliver to the world ( HYPERLINK "http://www.dalitstan.org" http://www.dalitstan.org)”.In this saying, Gandhi believed that by practicing passive resistance, eventually his oppressors would realize the error in their ways and submit to diplomatic negotiations. - 목 차 -1. 서 론2. 조 사 자 료3. 자 료 분 석(본론)4. 결 론1. 서 론이번 레포트는 주변지역 상점과 업소들의 간판을 조사하여 외래어와 우리말의 쓰임의 정도를 알아보고 문제와 대책 그리고 외래어를 많이 쓰는 이유들을 밝혀보고 우리가 자주 보고 있는 여러 가지 간판들의 나름대로의 뜻도 조사해 볼생각이다.그리고 지역마다 어떤 특색으로 간판을 제작하는 지도 연구해 볼 생각이다.먼저 대전지역은 입학한 후로 궁동만 다녔으므로 많은 간판들을 조사하지 못하였다. 그래서 어디에 가면 많은 간판들을 쉽게 볼수 있을까 생각한 끝에 주말에 집이 있는 부산에 갔다 오게 되었다. 특히 부산의 큰 시내인 남포동 서면 궁동과 비슷하지만 규모 면에서 아주 큰 부산대학로 등을 다니면서 조사를 하였다.2. 조 사 자 료부산광역시 진구 서면일대{외래어한글스카이포토 가족, 아기, 웨딩 촬영온라인포토 인터넷 사진, 사이버프린트롯데화랑 사진, 그림, 대관, 기획전시라스베가스 극장그랜드 오페라단 공연 안내비에스플라워 꽃바구니,화환,난aFlower 꽃다발,꽃바구니,화환레데코 팜빌 통나무 목조주택롯데백화점 백화점린나이 보일러 부산지역 A/S센터마리아와 요셉 재혼자,독신자,카운셀러진선미 꽃집 상품 소개섬 부산 극단가나공인중개사 매물정보가야주단 주단,혼수,예단한복결혼만들기 웨딩 서비스기억종합상사 수중 모터,펌프나라 파생금융 투자 대행회사늘푸른여행사 허니문, 배낭여행부산광역시 부산대학앞 일대{외래어한글후레스토랑 식당-경양식테라 식당-경양식샤롯떼 식당-경양식부룩소 식당-경양식러브체인 식당- 분식캔미트 호프엔돌핀 노래연습장 노래방드라이브 당구장 당구장주크 박스 호프집피안새 카페 카페서원탑훼밀리 편의점나폴레옹 배이커리 제과점마트코리아 편의점세븐 일레븐 편의점제로포인트 팬시점림스 치킨 통닭집뉴델리베이커리 제과점좋은 인상 식당-경양식서울깍두기 식당-한식갈비 한마당 식당-요리자전거 도둑 식당-경양식해리가 샐리를 만났을때 식당-경양식봄다시 식당- 분식보람분식 식당- 분식끝내줘요 식당- 한식황소 당구장 당구장태양 당구장 당구장만남 비디오 비디오방너랑 나랑 서점 서점동그라미 미용실 미용실금터 귀금속 전문점한바다사진실 사진관낙원떡집 떡집꼬꼬통닭 통닭집똥산돼지 식당지중해 여관억수 단란주점 단란주점예림 미술학원 학원소망 주차장 주차장3. 자 료 분 석이렇게 두 지역을 조사하였다. 원래는 한 지역만을 조사하려고 하였으나 지역별의 특색이 있을 것 같은 생각이 들어 조사를 따로 하였다. 조사해본 결과 많은 외래어 간판이 있다는 걸 알게 되었다. 하지만 색다를 사실도 알게 되었다. 지금 위의 자료를 보면 두 지역 (부산대학로, 서면)을 일정한 시간 안에 비슷한 크기의 블록을 돌면서 조사한 자료이다. 그런데 조사를 마치고 보니 부산대학앞 거리에서는 한글 간판이 외래어 보다 많은 반면에 서면은 외래어가 한글 간판보다 많았다. 그 이유는 아마도 서면이란 곳은 모든 연령층이 모이는 곳이다. 따라서 물가도 비싸고 많은 종류의 업소들이 있다. 하지만 부산 대학 앞의 거리는 10대들만 모이는 곳이다. 그래서 물가도 싸고 10들을 겨냥한 업소들의 간판들을 내 걸었다는 생각을 하게 된다. 어른을 상대로 라면 좀더 얌전하고 세련된 간판이 필요하였을 것이고 10대들은 그런 딱딱하고 평범한 간판보다 좀더 파격적이고 개성이 강한 그런 간판을 선호 할 것이다. 그렇게 개성 있는 간판을 쓰려면 외래어보다는 순 한글로 간판을 만드는 것이 가장 좋은 방법인 것 같다. 왜냐면 순 한글을 보는 사람으로 하여금 외래어보다 확실한 의미 전달이 되고 한번 보거나 듣게 되면 잘 잊어버리지 않기 때문일 것이다. 그래서 외래어를 이렇게 한글로 바꾸면 어떨까 하는 생각에 조사한 몇 개의 외래어 간판들을 내가 순 한글로 바꿔 보았다.롯데 마그넷 - 롯데는 회사명이기 때문에 어쩔 수 없다. 하지만 마그넷은 영어로 마음을 끌다라는 뜻을 표현이다 따라서 순 한글로 그린 월드 - 정수기를 파는 회사이다. 한글로 직역하면 토이스토리 - 완구점이다. 이것도 한글로 직역하면 만수무강 - 한약방이다. 한글로 다께 - 일식전문점이다. 다께는 일본어로 대나무를 뜻한다. 따라서 에스원 - 보안업체이다. 무슨 뜻으로 에스원인지는 모르겠으나 보안업체가 한글 간판을 쓴다면 이런 것도 괜찮듯 하다 도미노피자 - 피자 집이다. 도미도처럼 많은 사람들이 그 맛에 연속적으로 넘어진다는 의미로 만든 간판인 것 같다. 굳이 한글로 한다면 줄줄이 쓰러진다는 의미로러브 체인 - 음식점이다. 맛있는 음식을 먹고 사랑이 엮어지라는 의미인 것 같다. 순 한글로 고치면 캔미트 - 호프집이다. 시원한 맥주 한 캔을 하며 만난다는 의미인 것 같다. 순 한글로 고치게 되면나폴레옹 베이커리 - 제과점이다. 위인의 이름을 따서 만든 제과점이다 그런데 왜 하필 프랑스 장군인가 우리 나라에도 위대한 위인은 많다.이런 식으로 고치면 어떨까 하고 생각해 보았다. 어떤 것은 참신하고 괜찮아 보이는 것도 있고 어떤 것은 전혀 어울리지 않는 것도 있다. 이렇게 한글간판을 쓸 수 있음에도 불구하고 아직도 많은 외래어 간판들이 걸려 있는 것이 큰 문제라고 할 수 있다. 얼마 전 한글을 갈고 다듬어야 할 주무부처인 교육부마저 인재양성 계획을 '브레인 오브 코리아 21'이라는 이름을 지었다. 내가 속한 정보통신공학부가 이 계획에 포함이 되는데 대학생들은 이것을 BK21이라고 부른다. 이렇게 심각한 수준에 이른 외래어 사용은 큰 문제가 아닐 수 없다. 그런데 이렇듯 외래어가 판을 치는 분위기 속에 우리말을 사용한 간판들이 하나둘씩 나타나고 있다는 것이 불행 중 다행이다. 얼마 전 고추장 냄새를 풍겨야 장사가 잘 됩니다. 라는 기사를 보았다. 순우리말을 사용하는 간판이 늘고 있으며 순우리말을 사용하는 업체들이 매출이 높다는 조사가 나왔다는 것이다. 요즘 최근 들어서 간판들이 순 한글로 많이 쓰이고 있는 것이 사실이다. 우리 학교 앞의 간판만 보더라고 아무데나 친구사이 항아리 국시 등만 보더라고 알 수 있는 사실이다. 듣기에도 좋고 기억하기도 쉬운 순 우리말을 간판으로 사용하여 야 할 것이다. 국적 불분명의 간판이나 그 간판을 보고 무엇을 하는 곳인지 예측 할 수 없는 간판은 결코 간판의 역할을 충분히 하고 있다고 볼 수 없는 것이기 때문이다. 간판의 명은 업소명과도 직결된다. 요즘시대에는 상호명과 브랜드 이름이 성패를 좌우한다고 한다. 괜찮은 이름 하나로도 성공과 실패로 나뉠 수 있다는 것이다. 이렇게 중요한 것일수록 신경을 써야 할 것이다. 지금까지 조사해 본 결과 특별한 경우를 제외하고는 재미있고 개성 있는 순 한글을 쓰는 업소가 대체적으로 장사가 잘된다는 점이었다. 꼼돌이와 쭈순이 , 고기신랑 버섯각시 , 웃음꼬치 활짝 한번 보기만 봐도 미소짓게 되고 기억에 오래 남는다. 부산 대학 앞에서 가장 북적거리는 신발 가게를 찾았다. 신발 가게 이름이 시너스조은 이었다. 처음엔 외래어로 체크를 하려고 하였는데 다시 한번 생각해 보니 신어서 좋은 이 말을 그냥 발음 그대로 쓴 것이었다. 이런 간판에 대해서는 의견의 각자 다를 것이다. 왜 맞춤법에 맞게 쓰지 않느냐는 의견과 개성 있고 참신해서 좋다는 의견이 나올 것이다. 나는 이렇게 생각한다. 먼저 간판이라는 것은 사업자 입장에서 자기의 사업장을 많은 소비자들에게 알리고 어필하기 위한 수단인 것이다. 국어 순화를 생각한다면 신어서 좋은 으로 하는 것이 맞는 것이다. 하지만 신어서 좋은 이라는 간판 이였다면 지금처럼 저렇게 장사가 잘되었을까? 내 친구들도 그 가게에 신발을 사러 많이 가는 편인데 그 이유는 한결같이 이름이 개성 있고 재밌다는 이유가 꼭 들어가게 마련이다. 첫 느낌은 외래어라는 느낌을 주지만 실제로는 순 한글을 소리나는 데로 쓴 것뿐이다. 나는 모든 한국의 간판들이 순 한글을 사용하여 씌어야 한다고 생각하진 않는다. 그 상품이나 문화가 외래에서 전파되어 온 것을 굳이 한국어로 끼워 맞춰 쓰는 것도 그다지 좋지 못한 현상일 수도 있기 때문이다. 가능하다면 한글 간판을 쓰자는 것이다. 지나가면서 얼핏본 한복점 간판에 The story of Chunhyang 이라고 되어 있었다. 춘향전을 영어로 써 놓은 것이다. 그 간판을 보고 전혀 이해가 가지 않았다. 분명히 한복점이라면 연령층은 젊은 10대들이 아닌 나이가 있는 성인 층에게 한복을 파는 곳인데 춘향전을 영어로 풀이해 쓸 필요가 있었을까? 하는 생각이 들었다. 그냥 한복점이 있어서 들어가는 것이지 그 간판을 보고 다음에 다른 사람에게 어떤 곳의 한복이 괜찮다고 얘기해줄수 없는 이름인 것 같다는 생각이 들었다. 반대로 세진 컴퓨터를 한글로 바꾼다고 해서 세진 셈틀로 바꾸는 건 좀 어색하기도 하고 셈틀이라는 순 한글이 무엇을 뜻하는지 모를 수도 있는 것이다. 따라서 외래어를 쓸곳은 한국어에 없는 것은 쓰는 것은 어쩔 수 없는 것이다. 한글 학자들은 간판에 국적 없는 외래어가 많다고 바꿔야 한다고 주장하지만 업소를 운영하는 사람 입장에서는 그렇지 않을 수도 있기 때문에 그 중간 점을 찾아 가능한 한글간판을 쓰는 것으로 하는 게 가장 좋은 대책인 것 같다. 이번 리포트를 쓰면서 느낀 것은 업체나 상품을 나타내는 이름이란 것이 얼마나 중요한가를 알게 되었다. 먼저 가장 중요한 점은 사람들이 한번 들으면 기억에 오래 남는 그런 상표와 간판들이 제일 좋다는 생각이 든다. 내 이름도 순 한글이라서 어릴 땐 놀림 받는 게 싫었지만 지금은 사람들이 내 이름을 한번 알게 되면 오래 동안 기억해 줘서 참 좋다고 느낀다.
