Elementary English composition3, March, 2006Travel to AustraliaI believe that traveling always improves myself and only makes me freedom. I had serious illness in my mind 2 years ago. I couldn’t sleep every night and eat well either for a long time. Even I thought I have no reason to live anymore. I didn’t have any problems but I felt I can’t live like that. I really wanted to run away from my ordinary life. When I thought only traveling can improve myself and make me free I decided to leave. When I told my parents that I’d better stop going on school and travel to overseas they couldn’t accept that. They thought I was just bored and I needed a rest. But I started to make money for traveling and I could fly on Australia 7th, June, 2005. I had stayed in Australia for 10 months. It wasn’t too long but short. I sill remember beautiful places that I visited such as a small winery, the zoo and a gourmet restaurant.I remember the memories driving to winery with my friends. I have some friends in Brisbane. I met them at the Korean supermarket they asked me about recipes for Korean food. We were getting closer by swapping recipes. Sometimes when they had a party I used to get a bottle of wine for them. We loved gourmet food and wines. One day a friend of mine told me that he would go to a winery if I wanted I can join them. So we went to a winery near the Mountain Tamberine. I was really excited to go there because I wanted to have an experience of working at farms or wineries. The winery was not very big, but it was great. Even though I saw grape trees which have some twigs not leaves or grapes, I was impressed. I could taste some kind of wines and buy them. I still remember the taste of a glass of the wine that was fresh and beautiful. It is little annoying to pay for entering the zoo, but, I was willing to pay for petting kangaroos and koalas. Because before I couldn’t see the kind of animals in Korea, I really wanted to pet them and take pictures. They didn’t look to be interested of people but, I followed them for a long time. There were some rules in the zoo. We can’t stand straight against them because when they are fighting each other they stand straight like human. So if we stand straight, they might misunderstand and attack us. After I fed them I went to watch a performance of snakes. A snake handler looked very skinny and funny but I was sure that he should be brave. He showed us a snake that has red dots. He said she is poisonous but gentle. I felt sad that she looked tamed. I was scared of snakes but they didn’t look scare because I thought they are not wild animals anymore, just ‘the zoo animals’.There are many kinds of restaurants in Gold Coast because there are a lot of people from many other countries. For example, Laksa from Singapore, Pho from Vietnam, Fish and Chips from England or Australian. It was a great time when I spent all my salary for tasting the gourmet food that even are not very cheap. Especially I prefer Vietnamese food because it tastes similar to Korean food. One of the popular menu in Vietnam is Vietnamese noodle soup ‘Pho’. It was used with bone of caw or chicken depended on the soup. Normally they were served with bean sprout and some basil or mint leaves and that made the soup fresher with deep flavor. At that time I couldn’t eat anything, the noodle was only my consolation. It tastes like Korean meat soup, Kalbi-tang.Traveling always make me an impression. I will not forget the feeling when I petted kangaroos. I will also remember the time when I was ill nobody could take care of me overseas. I became stronger through the time. Generally people compare life to travels. Like we are getting more mature and thoughtful by aging, we will get more happiness and appreciation about people by traveling.park PAGE 1
