hi. my name is bae sun mi.i'd like to introduce myself.um.. as you see , i'm a student in pusan univ. and mymajor is japanese. and let's finish introductionand now.i want to talking about Pusan Int'l Film FestivalThe Pusan International Film Festivals ran from September 14 to 23.during that period, the streets of the historic Nampo district was packed with filmmakers, critics, movie junkies and silver-screen wannabes. With 228 films at four venues around the city, this year's festival was a celluloid feast, though it was no secret that Asian cinema is the main.Four days before the festival opened, about 40 films was completely sold out.let me introduce some films that gathered audience's great interesting.Kim Ki-duk's ``The Coast Guard’’ marked the commencement of movie madness. Another domestic highlight on the schedule is ``Too Young to Die,’’ a semi-autobiographical film by Park Jin-pyo that boldly explores the topic of septuagenarian sex.andThe festival's closing film, ``Dolls,’’ was the latest vision of Takeshi Kitano, Japan's celebrated director of ``Sonatine’’ (1993) and ``Hana-bi’’ (1997). as you know these are famous in korea also. i guess you guys saw these movies. ``Dolls’’ contains three stories that explore the many seasons and manifestations of love. This year, domestic films accounted for 45 percent of domestic theatre revenue. The recent abundance of commercially and critically successful domestic films pays tribute to the outreach of PIFF and its impact on local industry. The PIFF programming committee makes a conscious effort to give a boost to domestic directors by putting worthy projects in the limelight with the Korean Panorama program.Included in this program were several screenings of previously released films that gave non-Korean speakers a chance to see English-subtitled versions of the films. One such film at PIFF is the ``Chihwaseon,’’ by veteran director Im Kwon-taek that shared the Best Director award at Cannes this year. It chronicles dramaical life of painter Chang Sung-up during the Choson Kingdom. Another was the 2002 Venice International Film Festival nominee for the Golden Lion, ``Oasis,’’ the latest movie by the medium-challenging Lee Chang-dong.Audiences at PIFF have gained a reputation as film savvy and enthusiastic, but cinephiles aren't the only crowd rushing to Pusan this week. PIFF has gained much prestige among filmmakers, producers, and distributors in its seven-year course. While in the 1980s and early ’90s the Hong Kong International Film Festival was seen as the premiere Asian venue for world cinema, PIFF's innovative marketing and promotional strategies have earned it's fame in recent day.As a regional survey PIFF has the Window on Asian Cinema program that consists of 34 films from 12 countries. The New Currents program( 11 films ) highlights stories with innovative themes to provide a framework for the Asian cinema of tomorrow. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of New Taiwanese Cinema, a retrospective program will showcase 13 films that take the viewer along the path of Taiwan's New Wave, which began in 1982.
