No children means no future. When people die the only thing most people leave is their blood, their descendants. Therefore, if we stop having babies there is a possibility that it could be an extinct of human race. It sounds quite dramatic but due to world’s economic crisis and many other reasons low birth rate of Korean has been becoming to reality. In 2008, Koreans total birthrate was down to 1.19 and this year experts expected that birthrate it will deceased to only one child per one family. Also expert warned that if we Koreans continue to have only one child or no child until 2018 the population of Korea will be start to diminish and by the 24th century there will no Koreans left in Earth. No children no future. To prevent this national disaster I think first we Koreans should realize how serious this issue is and individually we should try to have at least two children. Second in company level, companies should make better rules for parents encouraging them to bring up more children, and lastly for financial purpose government should make new laws about advocating newly parent or anyone who hope to have kid.First thing we must do is to understand what will be caused by low birth rate. If we Koreans don’t give birth to more than two children there could be economic growth problems. Low birthrate means that the country will face a declining labor force in years ahead. Since 2006 and until now, Korean populations of major working group who are in their 30s to 40s have been declined causing lots of social problems like shrink in labor support, low productivity, reduced consumption, low investment and unbalanced income and outgo. Individually the basic solution for this issue is to have more than two children. Everybody understands giving a birth to baby and raising a baby is physically and financially hard thing to do. Ten months of carrying the baby is incredibly difficult for both mother father and raising a child costs a lot of money. Even there are so many hardships to raise a child we should try to have more than two children because if we don’t there could be more grim result in the future.Second, companies should make better rule for working parents. These days one of the main reasons that many people don’t want to have child is because they want to keep their career instead of raising a child. If companies allow workers to have both many parents might think about having children. Providing longer maternity leave or even give fathers to have maternity leaves, a bonus or subsidy for having many children can be good example. Company own free baby-sitters for employees is another good way for workers to encourage to have many children because money for the baby sitters can be the reason why these day people don’t want to raise a kid. Finally, government should encourage all parents by supporting children raising money or reducing taxes. As I mentioned earlier, bringing up child is all about money. If government is able to support lots of subsidies to all parents, it is likely that many people would try to have more children. Moreover, if government reduces tax for parent most people would voluntarily have lots of children for benefits they can get from the government. To conclude, low childbirth rate of our society is a phenomenon we can’t avoid. However, if Korean’s lowest birthrate maintains, the population will start to decrease and cause lots of problems. Before this problem gets worse and progress so far that we can’t do anything about, we must start to get rid of the causes that makes low birthrate personally and governmentally to avoid worst future.
Friends: Quality or quantityThere is a Korean saying ‘Friends are a mirror that reflects you.’ The meaning of this saying is that person’s characteristics can be seen from his or her friends’ behavior. It emphasizes how important friends are in one’s life. However, we know it is very ridiculous to point out importance of friend, then how about numbers of friends? How many friends person should have? Should we make as many friends as possible or just make few very close friends. Whatever the answer is, friends are the person who share worries together, always help each other and grow up together. One of the main functions of friend is sharing worries and solving it together. No matter how many friends you have friends always stay near, listening and giving you advices. In this view, having many friends allow yourself to talk much and get many advices. A few close friends on the other hand, allow you to talk deeper about problems. Moreover, close friend will stay near and help until the problem is solved.Having many friends can be very useful when you are in trouble at anything. It means that you can get help from different people. For example, if you are in a car accident and need some help. And there might be a friend who is police person or person who works in insurance company so you get help from them. Having many friends means possibility of getting lots of help. On the other hand, if you only have a few very close friends it is very likely to get a 100% helps from your few close friend. Even you don’t have friends who work in insurance company or in police station; your close friends will help you know matter what. The meaning ‘friend’ in dictionary level is that a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically exclusive of sexual or family relations. In my personal opinion, friend is a person you grow up together. Growing up with whether many friends or a few close friends have merits and demerits. To start with good things about growing with many friends, it allows you to learn lots of characteristics from many friends and to share lots of experiences together. Also when you hang out with many friends you will learn how to associate well with people automatically. The bad things about having many friends are that it takes too much time and money to take care of all friends. Not like family, friendships do not happen naturally. You have to give lots of effort to make real friend. Merit of having only a few close friends is that friends become really close. Fewer friends share every secret and consider themselves as brother. However, bad things about few friends are if one moves away very far, there is more possibility that they become less close because the less you meet the less you become close. To conclude, friend is not all about quantity. It is not about having large number of friends or few close friends. Irrelevant with numbers, the most important thing is a word ‘friend’ itself. We should never forget friends are always near you and they will do anything for you. No matter how many friends you have, we should always not forget a Korean Saying ‘if you go anywhere, friends go too’ meaning friend will be always there and friends are the other shapes of yourself.
Peaceful death or Murder? What would you do if someone you love is in so strong agony and in the last stage of an illness which has no medical treatments like cancer? Would you rather let him or her have an easy and painless death or never give up their life, hoping they would be cured someday? Furthermore, what would you do if there is a person whose brain is dead and the family is suffering from paying hospital payments, just hoping someday patient will be cured eventually. Why do people say it is a murder even if sufferer wants to die peacefully? Does not every choice must be decided by own selves, even when to die? We all know it is wrong to take a human life on purpose even if a person has serious injuries or brain death, but you have to know, it is more than that. Before we argue about living or death, we should think of the every circumstances of a sick person. Since, not only patient suffers from endless ache but also patient’s family undergoes emotional and physical hardships and financial problems for incurable diseases, I strongly believe we must accept and allow euthanasia. With the help from improved medical treatment and medicine technology, doctors are able to relieve sufferings. Of course, those medicines can stop the pain for some time but they are just paralyzing the nerves of patient not treating it. It is not the right answer. Nobody knows and can never experience the dreadful agony which patients suffer. As I said, doctors only can give them pills or injections to alleviate little pain for a short time. Still, what if patients cannot stand the pain even medicine is fully used and just wants to have a peaceful death? For this reason, mercy killing should be executed if that is what patient really needs. Some people might say that nobody has the right to kill anyone. They also say there is a hope if one keeps his or her life go on and prey, they will be cured someday. However, you should know that for the patience’s family watching one of the relations suffering from incurable disease can be real torture than patience themselves. If there is a family member who has an incurable illness, it is not the only matter for the ill person. It has to be concerned to every family member. One must always stay near to help the patient and share every moment of the pain together. We should never forget it is hard for everybody related. No one want to say good bye but what if the peaceful death is what sufferer really wants because he or she does not want their family to bear the burden? Saying good bye and let everybody release from the pain should be acceptable for not only for patient but also for family.Religious people say the person’s death must be depends on hand of God not judged by humans. This statement is very selfish because these people are only talking about their relief, not understanding what patient’s family is going through. There is a big financial problem which patience's family members have to face. Being in a hospital cost lots of money and many patients do not want their family to suffer financially. Fighting with a disease is not the only problem with the patient. There are always money difficulties for the medical cure. So my question is who is going to pay for the enough money for the treatment and life insurances? Moreover, what if patient suddenly gets sick and has no life insurance? We must realize that family will have as much pain for the payment of the cure as sick person’s agony. To conclude, every person has the right to decide whether they should live or die, and mercy killing is also one of the acts which must be carried out by their own or blood-related decision. People must understand mercy killing is very different from just murdering people. And government should permit mercy killing if necessary. People all die someday. Giving a quiet death to a person who holds unbearable pain can be the start of the new things and begin of the world without pain. We must know sometimes there are bad things must be done for the good purposes.
Have you ever heard the phrase ‘Children are future.’Well, I think it’s true. When people die the only thing most people leave is their blood. I mean descendants. So what happens if we stop having babies? The answer to this question is quite clear. There will be an extinct of human race. It sounds quite dreadful but it’s true. There will be no future without children. Now let me talk about Koreans childbirth rate these days. Due to World’s economic crisis many Koreans are hesitating and delaying to have babies. Experts say that Koreans birthrate has been declined to national disaster. Which means Koreans total birthrate in 2008 was down to 1.19 and they also expected that birthrate in 2009 will be decease to only one child per one family. Expert again warned that if we Koreans continue to have only one child or no child until 2018 the population of Korea will be start to decrease and by the 24th century there will no Koreans left in Earth. As I said before our race will be extinct after 300 years. So what can we do to stop this national disaster? My answer to this question is so simple ‘Koreans must have at least 2 children.’ But I know it’s not that easy as it sound.I understand giving a birth to baby and raising a baby is physically and economically hard thing to do. 10 months of carrying the baby. I know it’s incredibly difficult for mothers. And what about raising a child? We all know it cost a lot of money. Moreover, Korean Government aren’t supporting enough parents to raise a child. So most people say one child is essential if you want to, second child is if money allows and third child is for rich people. However, even there will be hard situations you have to face if you have children, to stop this childbirth related national disaster and for the bright future, we Koreans must try to have at least two children for these reasons.First is because about economic growth problems caused by low childbirth rate. Low birthrate means that the country will face a declining labor force in years ahead. Since 2006, Korean populations of major working group who are in their 30s to 40s have been declining. Moreover, due to low birthrate, decline in labor support, low productivity, shrinking consumption, low investment, unbalanced income and outgo will be incur and make economy's growth slower. According to OECD low childbirth rate will causes reduction on nations GDP growth 0.25% to 0.75% every year.Second is because of increased burden on the younger generation to support the elders. Low childbirth rate is directly connected to the aging society. Experts warn us that by 2018, those over the age of 65 will constitute 14 percent of the population. Meaning one young generation must take care of one old generation. Ratio of two generation will be 1 to 1. And there is a possibility that future situations can cause conflict between two generations because there will be a big age-gap.Third is because having two children makes better family atmosphere and better child behavior than having only one or not. This reason is little different than upper ones. However, for children it is always better to have siblings. A child with a sibling is not that selfish and lonely than a child alone. And if family is bigger the child learns how to fit into the society better than single child. We must not forget family is the first society we participate. To conclude, low childbirth rate of our society is a phenomenon we can’t avoid. However, if Korean’s lowest birthrate maintains, the population will start to decrease and cause lots of problems. Developed countries like France and Sweden acknowledged this problem earlier than us and are making much effort on solving low childbirth rates. Before this problem gets worse we must start to get rid of the causes that makes low birthrate personally and governmentally. Thank you for listening.
