Japanese-American concentration campPhillips. KimPeriod202/16/10“Bodily injury soon heals, but emotional injury takes longer.” Japanese immigrants came to the United States of America with the goal of fulfilling the American dream. In 1941, after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the dreams of the entire Japanese American immigrant population went to hell. As a result of anti-Japanese sentiment, Japanese Americans were seen as traitors and were separated from the rest of the population and put into concentration camps. Their peaceful life was changed to a period of pain and anguish. Although there was no evidence that Japanese- Americans were had sold secrets to the Japanese, The U.S government put them into the camps together. Their life in the camps terrible and during this period they experienced immeasurable pain. “We woke early, shivering and coated with dust that had blown up through the knotholes and in through the slits around the doorway” (from book Manzanar)In the 1890s, ths rubber, copper, iron and aluminum that they desired. If Japan was the most in power full nation in Southeast Asia, they could produce more military supplies. As a response, the United States put an embargo on the export of oil of Japan. At that time, Japan only had a three or five month supply of oil so they viewed this embargo as a treat. This was the reason why Japan renounced their alliance and attacked Pearl Harbor. After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, U.S President Roosevelt declared war on Japan. As they prepared for war, lots of U.S citizens volunteered to join the army. During this period the U.S government tried to find the Japanese spies who they believed had sold secrets to the Japanese government. Although there was no evidence that Japanese-Americans were implicated in the war, there was no choice. As the story goes anti-Japanese clusters planed to remove the economic obstructers. However the fact is U.S government evacuated Japanese-Americans and took any follow up nidoka in Idaho, Heart Mountain in Wyoming, Granada in Colorado and Rohwer and Jerome in Arkansas. In addition, some other Japanese American lived in Hawaii so U.S government also built the camp in Hawaii. "Everything was so uncertain....my mother was sure that we were all going to go out to become farm laborers and that we would all be shot."Japanese-American’s life in the concentration camp was painful and terrible. The camps were surrounded by the walls and armed soldiers kept the people captive. The camps were in a line like barracks. The barracks were built rapidly and some of them were transformed from cattle stalls so the smell was bad. In the barracks, the cutting wind came through the small holes so the Japanese rebuilt the barracks to keep out the cold air. Also the rooms were poorly ventilated, therefore lots of Japanese kids got sick from poor condition of the barrack. Unfortunately the toilets and other bathroom facilities were public and were located outside, so people dihe other hand, the relationship between Japanese and American soldiers was bad. At the first time, they treated as an animal such as hit them and sworn them because the soldiers had ill feeling toward Japanese. Some of Japanese-Americans worked in factories at the concentration camps. Although only some of them worked and the wages were extremely low, Japanese-American had to work. They worked in the clothing factory. The conditions of the factories were poor and threatened the security of Japanese labors. However Japanese-Americans worked in the factory because that is the only way they can earn the money even if the wage is extremely low. They confirm believed that they will be released and find the new life.Dropping atom bombs on Japan brought the end of World War II. Japan seized from U.S army and they surrendered at discretion. As Japanese government surrendered, the U.S government released the Japanese-American in the concentration camp because of the belief that the United States chapter in Japanese and Japanese-American’s history. Even though most are second or third generation Japanese, born and raised there, discrimination was still a factor they had to live with after World War II. Also conditions in the concentration camp were unbelievable; overcrowding and poor sanitary conditions led to disease and even death. However they never gave up and kept tried to survive again and again under very harsh circumstances. It was a fount of Japanese’s strength. People believe their spirit made their strong nation and still, and the spirit made the Japanese and the United States of America more closely.BibliographyBoswell, Sharon. The Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union began after World War II. It was the period that “Cold War” does not meaning nations fight with gun. It means such as the United States competed with the Soviet Union in weapons and space exploration, the US and the Soviet Union had a fierce arms race as well. During the Cold War, not only tension had built up between the two countries but also sometimes it was kind of peaceful. The international crisis in during Cold War was Cuba Missile crisis and Korean War.One of the issues that led to crisis is Cuba. The first crisis, which is called “The Bay of Pigs,” was occurred in Cuba. First of all, Cuba became to Communist, they seized foreign-owned businesses and Soviet also expressing intent to strengthen Cuba military. Therefore President Eisenhower let the CIA train and arms a group of Cuban exiles. On April 17, 1961, 1,400 armed exiles landed at the Bay of Pigs on south coast of Cuba- invasion was a disaster. Kennedy canceled US air support to keep our involvement a secret and the popular uprising never happened outcome made the U.S look weak and disorganized. Also the other issues that led to crisis is Korea. The cold war spread to Asia as well such as China and Korea. Soviet controlled North and America controlled South. At the Cold war began, Both governments claimed authority over Korea, and border clashes were common. As a result North became communist, Soviet supported military supplies to North Korea. On June 25, 1950, North Korea troops invaded the South and quickly drove back the South Korea forces. Truman saw the Communist invasion of SK as a test of the containment policy and ordered US naval and air power into action. It was called on the United Nations to act. Truman succeeded because the Soviet delegate was boycotting the UN security council over its China policy and was not present to veto the American proposal. With the pledge of UN troops, Truman ordered General MacArthur to send American troops from japan to Korea.Although The collapse of the former Soviet Union brought an end to the cold war, The end of the Cold War did not usher in the era of peace that the world had hoped for, but rather it gave new life to dozens of secessionist movements around the world.

The Great Depression had a strong impact on the economy and people of the United States and began to affect the country toward the end of 1930 and early in 1931. The Great Depression of 1933 occurred because banks lent money to people who could not pay back their loans. Many people lost their job and As the economic crisis, many companies went bankrupt as well. Finally in 1932, Franklin Roosevelt introduced the New Deal and the New Deal entailed three main goals; relief, recovery and reform. The primary reason that led to Great Depression was Stock Market Crash and overproduction. Companies made more goods than could be sold and the stock market crash set off a chain reaction of economic failure that impacted the entire nation. For example margin calls used by lenders to get the loan paid back immediately; this made borrowers nervous when stock prices fall. Also many people withdrew their money from banks in fear that the bank would collapse. The Stock Market Crash was many people wanted to sell the stock in the same time on October 29th in 1929. Approximately 16 million shares of stock were sold and the stock prices had dropped by more than one-third. This was called Black Tuesday. Many factories and businesses closed. People were out of work.President Hoover was worried about the Depression. Hoover increased funding for public works and expands the money supply to rescue the banks. Also he felt the states should help the needy people. Hoover did agree to give money to the states if they would use it to help the people. He lent money to banks and farms which is called “the Emergency Relief and Construction Act.” However he failed to resolve the economic crisis. In 1932 Franklin D. Roosevelt was nominated to President of the United States of America. Many people voted for him because people saw his energy and optimism. Therefore he was elected by an overwhelming majority. Roosevelt wanted to make new laws to help the business and the people. His policies for ending the Great Depression, called it the New Deal. After Roosevelt’s election but before his inauguration in March, the economy continues to decline. So Roosevelt sends a bill to congress. Congress passed 15 major acts to solve the Great Depression, economic crisis. It was called the First New Deal. Also he declared a Bank Holiday. Banks were closed for a short time to recover. Roosevelt addressed on the radio which is called “Fireside Chat” He told people directly that he closed the banks to help them. He asked people to leave their money in the banks as long as possible. People listened to Roosevelt and the bank panic ended. The best New Deal relief program was The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). It offered work to unemployed men between the ages of 18 to 25. They planted trees, cleared brush, made reservoirs. They were lived in campus, given food, and earned $30 a month. The President Roosevelt launched a series of programs which known as Second New Deal. Also The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was the largest public work program of New Deal. The WPA helped to people to back to work, so people can earn money. They built high ways, roads, streets and schools. The Social Security Act was passed in 1935. This took care of the sick and the old.Without President Roosevelt’s policy “New Deal,” the United States of America may not survived from the economic crisis. Roosevelt and American citizen’s optimism and his wise policy lead them out of the Great Depression. By 1937 the U. S. Economy was almost back to where it had been. The Depression ended with the Second World War in 1939 – 1940 and he became a great President who succeeded in ending the Great Depression
