Econ 440 Yeeun Kwag Final project*Research topic* Does the technology change affect the unemployment?Recent technological advances in AI, machine learning and automation have changed how individuals interact with their work. *introduction and motives* Recent technological advances in AI, machine learning and automation have changed how individuals interact with their work. In today's world, individuals are also increasingly driven by purpose in their work. While complete automation will affect only a small proportion of occupations, partial automation will impact almost every occupation as we know it.Technology and unemployment The U.S. unemployment rate has decreased, following increases in the level of technology 15 years earlier. Similarly, the unemployment rate has been going down.Literature and Hypothesis It is always debatable that technology change such as AI increases the unemployment rate. However, others have argued that technological innovations do not affect the unemployment rate. This research hypothesized: The technological innovation is a driver of the increasing unemployment in the United States of America.Methodology Use Regression method: To find out whether the technology change caused the unemployment in the US or not. To look into the unemployment in the US by innovation. Hypothesis: UR = ß0 + ß1*Tec Improved model one: UR = ß0 + ß1*Tec + ß2*Tec^2+ ϵ Improved model two: UR = ß0 + ß1*Tec + ß2*Tec^2 + ß3*GDP + ß4*Population + ß5*Income + ϵregression The regression analysis revealed that there is statistically significant relationship exists between technology change and unemployment. The coefficient of determination (R Squared) was found to be 0.6577 . The regression model shows that a positive relationship between technology change and unemployment rate.Conclusion The regression results indicate that technological innovations affect unemployment what shows that the regression is conclusive. The R squared (0.6577) tells us that the hypothesis matches so the technological innovation increase the unemployment in the United States of America. However, the high p-value shows that the technology change and unemployment are negatively correlated.Work cited The World Bank: https:// data.worldbank.org OECD: https:// data.oecd.org Fredcast : https://fred.stlouisfed.org I used the data from Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for the period between 2010 and 2018 and from Google.Thank you!{nameOfApplication=Show}
