Native American TribesHello I am OOO. Today’s topic is “Native American Tribes”. There are numerous types of Native American tribes such as Cherokee, Dakota, Navajo, Yurok and more of them. Before I tell you more about Native American tribes, I would like to explain what ‘tribe’ means. Tribes are people that live in groups and also share their own language. Among other types of native American tribes, I would like to talk about a well-known tribe called the Cherokees.The Cherokees are one of the most famous and major tribes that used to strive in America. There was a time when the Europeans came into the Cherokee’s land, and that changed the way of life. They offered new culture and technology. Smallpox was a shocking and big disease in Europe, but the Europeans were used to those kinds of disease. However, the Cherokees have never experienced such disease. Large numbers of Cherokees died because they were not immune to those disease.In 1828, the tribe had decreased to one-tenth the size compared to hundred years before. In 1835, twenty of the Cherokees signed the final treaty. However, those twenty Cherokees had no right to sign that paper. Therefore, the chief justice of United States announced that the agreement between the United States and some random Cherokee men had no legal power. That made President Andrew Jackson furious.The wrathful president used armed forces to push the Cherokees out of their own the land that they have been living for hundreds of years. The Cherokees walked more than hundreds of miles and finally arrived at Oklahoma. In the way to Oklahoma, many of them died in hunger and disease. The Cherokees cried and mourned for their friends and family. This long walk was known as the “Trail of Tears.”These days Cherokee’s live in Oklahoma, North Carolina, and mostly around the world. Today we talked about the story of Cherokees. These days many people know about Cherokees. They are one of the most famous native American tribes.
