Breast anatomyLobule - Functional unit of breast- One lobule = one gland and a ductLobe- Collection of lobules- 15-20 in each breast- Vary in size- When lactating – half will enlarge to become functional- Pyramidal in shape – radiating from areola w/ apex pointing toward areolaDuct & Sinus- Ducts of lobules merge to form larger ducts in the lobe= lactiferous ducts- Lactiferous ducts converge toward nipple and dilate to form= lactiferous sinuses- Sinuses – function as a milk reservoir
