Question: You are to explaining the reason(s) for the demise of TV and radio as revolutionary tools of educational technology and how contemporary multimedia has changed the classroom landscape into a "New Ecology." Also, you are to offer your opinions as to how multimedia can be an effective means to enrich English language education within Korea. All English classes in Korean secondary schools should have one English native-speaker assistant to help students become better communicators in English.

Since computers were introduced in English education, remarkable changes have taken placed. Moreover, connection of computers and Internet accelerates the educational changes. Because of computer introduction, the existing medium, such as TV and radio do not play a great role as tools of educational technology anymore. The first reason for the demise of the medium is that they are unidirectional, so English learners passively receive the information they provide. Such learning cannot facilitate real communication as a ultimate goal of the language learning. Secondly, the medium cannot lead learner-centered instruction. That is, they do not consider learner variables, such as the degree of students’ understanding, their needs and learning styles. The disadvantages of the existing medium cause the demise of them and then introduction of multimedia in education. These days, most English teachers in Korea recognize the importance of the multimedia in English education and try to use it in their classes.
