Many people have an American dream, and it makes them come to the U.S. In 1848, the gold rush happened in California, and it became a reason for Chinese immigration. Also, the low Chinese economy let Chinese people have the American dream. However, the Chinese Exclusion Act was made in 1882 to prevent Chinese people from coming to the U.S. It was the first immigration law that stopped Chinese immigration. After the law passed, more immigration laws were made, and American government did not accept Chinese people for sixty years. Now, people who concentrate on the Exclusion Act are arguing about the Act. Although some people claim that the Chinese Exclusion Act was reasonable, it was unnecessary because of the political parties’ negative view on Chinese people without accurate reasons, economic selfishness, and fear of a different culture.
Some people may think the Act was reasonable for the country. They believed that after Chinese people came to America, American young people had to face sharp competition with Chinese people to get their jobs. Some American people persisted that Chinese laborers usually took advantage in job competition because they were willing to work for lower wages than American laborers. In addition, American people thought that Chinese culture was weird because it had nothing in common with American culture. Chinese people owned different manners, taste, religion, ideas, and appearance from American people. Thus, some American people insisted that Chinese could not get along well with them and adjust American culture.
