    관장이란 항문을 통하여 직장과 결장으로 액체를 주입하는 과정을 뜻한다.
    임상적으로 사용빈도가 높은 글리세린관장은 50% 글리세린액 50~100mL를 직장 내에 주입하여 장벽을 자극하여 연동운동을 일으켜 배변을 촉진시키는 관장법의 하나이다.

    목적으로 다음과 같다

    1) 변비나 분변매복으로 인해 장에 머물고 있는 변을 배출하기 위함이다.

    2) 수술이나 검사를 위해 장을 깨끗하게 비우기 위함이다.

    3) 수술이나 분만 시 배변으로 인해 오염되는 것을 방지하기 위함이다.

    4) 체온을 하강시키기 위함이다.

    5) 진단검사 전에 마시거나 주입한 용액을 검사 후에 제거하기 위험이다.
