    원인 - 상부 위장관 출혈 : 위 및 십이지장 궤양, 식도 하부의 열상, 위/식도 정맥류, 위 혈관의 동정맥 기형 · 위 및 십이지장 궤양 : 장시간 소염제(NSAIDs) 복용 ·식도나 위 정맥류 : 간경화 합병증으로 위/식도 접합부위의 점막이 찢어져서 발생 - 하부 위장관 출혈 : 소장과 대장에서 출혈이 발생 ·대장의 혈관 이형성증, 대장 게실, 장티푸스, 장 결핵, 궤양성 대장염, 대장암, 대장 용종 , 치질

    (2) 증상

    ① 토혈(Hematemesis)
    구토 시 gross blood 관찰
    Melena가 있는 환자의 1/2 미만에서만 hemetemesis를 동반
    ② 흑색변(Melena) - 변성된 혈액에 의해 특징적인 냄새를 지닌 tarry black stool
    - 보통 100~200mL 이상의 출혈과 장내에서 8시간 이상 머물러야 발생
    - 약 90%가 상부위장관 출혈이 원인
