Purpose
산화제인 PCC(pyridinium chlorochromate)를 이용하여 citronellol로부터 aldehyde인 citronellal을 합성하고 alcohol의 산화반응을 이해한다.
환원제인 sodium borohydride를 이용해서 4-t-butyl cyclohexanone을 reduction하여 4-t-butylcyclohexanol을 합성하여 Ketone의 Reduction 반응을 이해한다.
Theory
1. Oxidation of alcohol (1차, 2차, 3차)
일반적으로 무기화학에서 산화반응과 환원반응을 구분할 때는 전자의 이동을 사용한다. 전자를 얻는 반응은 환원 반응, 전자를 잃는 반응은 산화 반응이다. 하지만, 무기화학과 달리 유기화학에서 다루는 유기화합물질은 전하를 갖지 않는 것이 일반적이다. 따라서, 산화제를 첨가해서 하는 반응을 산화, 환원제를 첨가해서 하는 반응을 환원이라고 하며, 산화제로는 주로 O2, Br2 등의 물질이 사용되며, 산화의 결과 O, X(halogen)이 첨가되거나 H2를 잃는다. 특히 알코올은 산화반응이 일어날 때, C와 H사이에 형성된 결합이 깨지면서 C와 O사이에 새로운 결합을 형성한다.
