1.0 Introduction
Northern Drilling, established in 2006, was an exploration diamond-drilling contractor in Canada and was hired by mining companies. Peter Bremner had experience in the exploration mining industry for more than 30 years and he developed excellent relationships with many of the world’s biggest mining companies.
Bremner received a RFP from Mond Nickel Company, one of the largest players in the mining industry. If Northern won the bid, it would be Northern’s largest contract to date. The dilemma Bremner faced was whether Northern was able to handle the job. Besides, Mond job was riskier than what they mostly do, and it would acquire new drills, drilling equipment and experienced drillers.
Northern had to plan mindfully and Bremner had to approach someone at Noranda, a loyal Northern client for several years and explain the Mond situation. There are several ways that they can do and we discuss them with further analysis.
