Last September, one man called to the policy in the city of Paju in Gyunggi-do. That is about the problem of pigs and it is the start point of African Swine Fever in Korea. To explain detail, at 6:30pm on 17 Sep 2019, it is that every pig from one pig farm was decided to kill, and then the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has confirmed the first case of African swine fever in Korea. Every farmer of raise pigs were confused and felt desperate. Thus, what is ‘African swine fever’ is exactly? How much does African swine fever affect the demand and supply of pork in Korea?

Firstly, it is importance to understand African swine fever. This disease is a viral infection in which only wild boars are infected not people and other animals. The incubation period is around 4 to 19 days, and the fatality rate is almost to 100 percent when acute. In areas where the disease has become endemic, it can also be caused by chronic disease. One of characters is that all ages of pigs are infected and die suddenly after the outbreak.
