본문내용

South Korea is known to have succeeded in introducing the volume-rated waste disposal system with Taiwan. The waste disposal system which is based on 'Pay as you throw' has managed to save about 6 trillion wons in the food waste disposal cost from 1994 to 2004. Since 2013, the Korean government decided to apply the disposal system on the food waste that has been pointed out as a significant problem not only nationwide but also worldwide. It has been half a decade since South Korea, the largest country in terms of waste dumping into oceans among the countries who has joined the London Protocol, implemented the new disposal system on the food waste, and it is necessary to be aware of the food waste and the new disposal system as a person living in the 21st century.

Food waste refers to agricultural, fishery and livestock waste and related food remnants generated in food production, distribution, processing and cooking. Food waste takes about 29% of the total amount of the domestic waste produced in Korea, and one-seventh of the total food is waste currently(KECO, 2014).
