How and why white collar workers are alienated in the American history

I. Introduction
Think about the words, “work” or “labour.” What images or thought do you occur in your mind? Hard? Money? Or means of living? Yes. All of them are true. Labour is the activity that people have to do in either a physical or a mental way for getting what they want. From the process, some wealth is generated and humans can continue to live by using the wealth. Robbins defines the meaning of labourer “the person who survives by selling labour.”(32) However, labour can be not only the means of surviving but also the embodiment of one’s identity. That is, what kinds of work one does is closely related to who or what one is. Someone’s personality, inclination, or reason for doing the work is reflected upon the work. In this regard, Marx saw labour as the existential activity and free and conscious activity, and Augustine stressed the sacredness of labour, which he thought the labour is a sort of gift from God.
