The well-known version of world systems theory has been developed by Immanuel Wallerstein since the early-1970s. World systems theory emphasizes that the world system (not nation states) should be the primary unit of analysis. Wallerstein attempted to trace the rise of the world system from the 15th century, when European feudal economy was transformed into a capitalist one. Europe utilized its economic advantages and gained control over most of the world economy, resulting in unequal development.
This report deals with three articles written by scholars who draw on the study of Wallerstein’s world system analysis and develop it through making use of different methods.

Income Distribution

Korzeniewicz and Moran seeks to identify trends in world income inequality between 1965 and 1992. According to Korzeniewicz and Moran, there was General theoretical and empirical consensus among scholars until the 1950s: that is, the development of capitalism was characterized by growing disparities in the distribution of income between poor and rich nations. However, from 1950 to 1979, there were debates on weather world economy is moving toward convergence or growing inequality. There was serious disagreement between the two arguments: the argument for convergence, and the argument for divergence.
