Difference between Korean values and American values
Growing up in Korea, I enjoy watching American dramas such as a ’Friends’ which are based on American real life. Watching American drama is very interesting because I can meet people from different culture. Whenever watching them on TV, I think that their lives are much the same as Korean’s. However, there is an obvious contrast between the cultures of East and West. Although, Korea is becoming more globalized, and Korean people easily assimilated into American culture, Korean and Americans have obvious different views of individualism, privacy, and directness as well.
One of the major differences between Korea and America is that the ideas about individualism. Americans highly value the individualism, but Koreans believe that the person’s relation is more important than individualism. Individualism and personal freedom has been a part of the American’s philosophy since the country began.
