In the case of abortion, whose rights do we consider? The mother or the fetus? I believe that we must consider the rights of the mother before the child. Opponents of abortion claim that abortion should be considered as an act of murder and a violation of the human rights of the fetus. However, while the personhood of the fetus is debatable, the personhood of the mother is definite. So I believe it is obvious to consider the human rights of the one who is definitely a person rather than a being whose personhood is indefinite. Also, focusing solely on the human rights of the fetus, while disregarding other factors just for the sake of the fetus being able to be born, is not only irresponsible but may have harmful results for society and those around them.

“Parental involvement laws, however, which only impact teen minors (less than 18 years of age), are found to have a significant negative effect on the various measures of the incidence of unintended pregnancy” (Unintended Pregnancy and Abortion Access in the United States).
The body that the fetus resides in belongs to the mother. The mother is the only one supporting the fetus. Since the mother should have the right to do whatever she wants to do with her body, she has the right to stop supporting the fetus. If the fetus somehow threatens the life of the mother, she should have the right to abort it. Just like how a person has the right to defend himself against an attacker, the mother should have the right to “defend herself” against a fetus who threatens her life.
