Introduction:
One has to wonder what all the fuss is about regarding China. Never mind the fact that India is on the rise in the global economy during the recent decade having started with barely nothing or the fact that foreign investment in India has risen over the year from $42 billion to $78 billion. The spotlight lies heavily on the People’s Republic of China and the experts and scholars all want a part in the discussion: whether China is an aggressive country or reactionary in its policies; whether China is a “threat” to the US, Japan, the Korean peninsula, or Northeast Asia in general; whether China is a developed country or still a developing country; whether China’s form of capitalism is stable or unstable in the short run or the long run; and whether China should take more responsibilities in global issues like climate change, currency and trade.
It is clear that every step taken by the Chinese government is dissected and analyzed by the outside world as to figure out the rationale and motive behind it, but similar to the Rubik’s Cube, the more people twist and turn, the more they find themselves left with mismatched colors of reasons and goals. It does not help that China is demanding a participatory seat at all the major foreign-policy discussions while at the same time contradicting itself by shying away from actual enforcement of the decisions taken at these discussions.
