Willy Loman`s Beliefs on Success, Parenting, Family, and Life
"Death of a Salesman" is a play written by Arthur Miller, who is regarded as one of the most famous American playwright of the twentieth century. This play depicts the last twenty-four hours of Willy Loman’s life, who is a popular salesman who relentlessly tries to pursue the American Dream. However, he is a failure as a father, a husband, and a salesman because of his misconceptions about success in bringing up his children, supporting his family and living his life.
First, as a father, Willy always focuses his children to be personally attractive and well-liked rather than to be a person of substance and integrity. Willy states “the man who makes an appearance in the business world, the man who creates personal interest, is the man who gets ahead. Be liked and you will never want “(Miller 1041).
