Global real economy downturn which was lead by financial crisis of U.S. origin is threatening the industries around the world until now. Especially for small firms which take a big part of state economy, it is critical and difficult period as a matter of life and death. When examining the economic situation of UK in beforehand of considering the current situation of small firms, especially small firms in UK, you can see it getting worse. In 2008 when the financial crisis began in earnest, it already recorded the negative growth, and in 2009, much wider range of negative growth is predicted. The continuance of economic downturn certainly creates the critical period for small firms which have inferior environment in comparison to major companies. Then, what is the influence of small firms on the economy of one country?

Small firms have the effect of regional economic development as well as the effect of employment increasing. In other words, small firms create a job opening to increase the employment effects, and it has the effect of regional economic development as locally scattered by the characteristics and needs of the material. Also, it contributes for the diversity of the industries and the economic, social, political stabilization by performing a great role in creating the middle-class based on balanced development of national economy. Especially, in economic regime which is easily get rigid because of the monopoly or oligopoly by major companies, small firms as competitors are indispensable. Moreover, small firms are contributing for the technical development in industries of which technologies are rapidly changing. Because of these roles of small firms, they have to survive and the governmental supports in many angles are required.
