플랫폼 기업의 지적자본 효율성이 재무성과 및 시장가치에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 국제 E-비즈니스를 영위하는 한국 기업을 대상으로 (A Study on the Effect of the Intellectual Capital Efficiency of Platform Companies on Financial Performance and Market Value: Focusing on Korean Companies Engaged in International E-Business)

초록

본 연구는 E-비즈니스의 주요 수익 모델로써 플랫폼 비즈니스의 부가가치지적계수(VAIC) 구성요소가 경영성과를 대리하는 재무성과 지표인 총자산수익률(ROA)와 기업가치 지표인 장부가치 대비 시장가치(MBR)에 미치는 영향을 검정했다. 관련 이전 문헌들은 E-비즈니스 경영 유형 혹은 플랫폼 비즈니스에 대한 개념 및 사례연구 등 탐색적 연구 위주였지만 본 연구는 플랫폼 기업의 지적자본 효율성이 재무성과 또는 시장가치에 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있는 실증을 제공하는 것이 목적이다. 특히, 플랫폼 비즈니스 기반 기업은 자체적으로 제공하는 거래의 장(場)을 활용하여 부가가치 창출을 용이하게 하고 별도의 사업 다각화 없이도 태생적으로 국제 경영을 함으로써 E-비즈니스의 주류 비즈니스 형태로 자리매김한 것에 착안했다. 부가가치와 연계된 투하자본효율성(CAE), 인적자본효율성(HUE), 구조자본효율성(STE)으로 구성된 부가가치지적계수(VAIC) 이론을 도입했고, 연구개발비투자율과 광고선전비투자율로 부가가치지적계수(VAIC) 이론의 조절 작용도 함께 연구했다. 기존 문헌들의 개념과 에프엔가이드사의 FnGuide 지수 편입 여부를 기준으로 분석 대상을 선정하였고, 총 139개 사에 대한 2012년부터 2021까지의 자료를 이용했다. 플랫폼 기업의 재무성과인 총자산수익률(ROA)를 종속변수로 한 분석에서는 투하자본효율성, 인적자본효율성과 통계적으로 정(正)의 관계가 나타났고, 구조자본효율성과 부(不)의 관계가 보였다. 한편, 연구개발비투자율은 총자산수익률(ROA)와 투하자본효율성 간의 정(正) 관계 및 총자산수익률(ROA)와 인적자본효율성 간의 정(正) 관계를 긍정적으로 조절했고, 광고선전비투자율은 총자산수익률(ROA)와 구조자본효율성 간의 부(不) 관계를 긍정적으로 조절했다. 장부가치 대비 시장가치(MBR)로 분석한 플랫폼 기업의 시장가치는 투하자본효율성, 구조자본효율성과 통계적으로 정(正) 관계를 보였지만 인적자본효율성과 통계적인 관계를 보이지 않았다. 또한, 연구개발비투자율과 광고선전비투자율은 부가가치지적계수(VAIC) 구성 효율성 들과 장부가치 대비 시장가치(MBR) 간의 관계에 대한 별도 조절 효과는 없었다. 본 연구의 학술적인 시사점은 E-비즈니스의 주류로써 플랫폼 기업의 재무성과와 기업가치에 영향을 미치는 부가가치지적계수(VAIC)의 영향을 최초로 분석하여 사례연구에서 벗어나고 부가가치 창출 역량과 연계할 수 있는 학문적 교차점을 이끌어 냈다. 실무적 시사점은 첫째, 플랫폼 기업의 관리자들은 효과적인 재무성과를 달성하기 위해 지적자본 효율성을 지속적으로 관리할 필요가 있고 둘째, 플랫폼 기업은 균형 잡힌 연구개발비 및 광고선전비 지출이 필요하며 마지막으로 플랫폼 기업은 지적자본 현황과 관련해 이해관계자들에게 더 구체적이고 투명한 정보 제공이 필요함을 함의한다.

영어초록

This study examined the effect of the value-added intellectual coefficient (VAIC) components of the platform business on total return on assets (ROA), a financial performance indicator representing management performance, and market value (MBR), a corporate value indicator. Previous literature focused on exploratory studies such as concepts and case studies of E-business management types or platform businesses, but this study aims to provide evidence that the intellectual capital efficiency of platform companies has a positive impact on financial performance or market value. In particular, platform business companies have established themselves as the mainstream business form of e-business by utilizing their own transaction sites to facilitate value-added creation and inherently conducting international management without any business diversification. Value-added intellectual coefficient (VAIC) theory consisting of value-added capital efficiency (CAE), human capital efficiency (HUE), and structural capital efficiency (STE) was introduced, and the adjustment of the value-added intellectual coefficient (VAIC) theory was also studied. Based on the concepts of the existing literature and whether FnGuide was incorporated into the FnGuide index, the analysis targets were selected, and data from 2012 to 2021 were used for a total of 139 companies. An analysis using the platform company's financial performance, ROA, as a dependent variable, showed a statistically positive relationship with investment capital efficiency and human capital efficiency, and a negative relationship with structural capital efficiency. On the other hand, the R&D investment rate positively adjusted the positive relationship between the return on assets (ROA) and the efficiency of invested capital, and the negative relationship between the return on assets (ROA) and structural capital efficiency. The market value of platform companies analyzed by market value (MBR) compared to book value showed a statistical positive relationship with investment capital efficiency and structural capital efficiency, but did not show a statistical relationship with human capital efficiency. In addition, the R&D investment rate and the advertising promotion investment rate did not have a separate moderating effect on the relationship between the efficiency of the value-added intellectual coefficient (VAIC) composition and the market value (MBR) relative to book value. The academic implications of this study were the mainstream of E-business, and for the first time, the impact of value-added intellectual coefficient(VAIC) that affect the financial performance and corporate value of platform business companies was analyzed. The practical implications are that first, managers of platform companies need to continuously manage intellectual capital efficiency to achieve effective financial performance, second, platform companies need balanced R&D and advertising expenditures, and finally, platform companies need to provide more specific and transparent information to stakeholders.
