평택시 도시공간구조의 시계열적 변화 분석 (A Time Series Analysis of Urban Structural Change in Pyeongtaek City)

초록

Using spatial statistical analysis, this paper examined the spatial distribution patterns of urban development in City of Pyeong-Taek that is one of the fastest growing cities. The empirical analysis demonstrates the followings as a problem of urban structure in Pyeongtaek; 1) lack of network system between communities due to weak functional centrality of each community; 2) high dependency on adjacent cities due to urban centrality; and 3) spatial disparity due to lack of resources for development in small communities in comparison to the urban center. In this regard, there may be a need to reconsider the functional discrepancy, caused by multi-centralization process of the city, between center of the city and each community and encourage more intensive development in each community to increase the jobs-housing balance continuously.This paper suggests that it is necessary to reorganize the urban spatial structure by, for example, development associated with transportation network system or expansion of urban centrality. Further, there should be a need to control urban sprawl and plan for comprehensive development by using estimation of demand for future development and by securing appropriate future development location. The results also indicate that policy makers and planners should promote balanced regional development in city of Pyeongtack by strengthening network system between urban and community centers in order to prevent concentration of development in certain regions.
