팬데믹 상황에서의 대학 원격강의 운영 실태 및 우수 강의 분석: 수도권 소재 종합대학 사례를 중심으로 (Analysis of the Operation Status and Best Practices of Distance Education in Universities under the Circumstance of Pandemic: Focusing on the Cases of University in the Metropolitan Area)

초록

목적 본 연구의 목적은 코로나 19 펜데믹 상황에서 전면적으로 시행된 대학 원격강의의 운영 실태와 교수자 인식을 조사하고, 학생만족도가 높은 원격강의 우수사례를 분석하여 효과적인 원격강의 설계 및 운영 방안을 도출하는 데 있었다.
방법 이를 위하여 2020학년도 1학기에 원격강의를 운영한 수도권 소재 대형 종합대학인 A대학의 교수자 149명 대상의 설문 분석과 원격강의 9개 강좌의 우수사례에 대한 내용 분석을 실시하였다. 우수사례의 내용 분석(content analysis)을 위해서는 교수자가제출한 문서와 영상 자료들을 대상으로 연구자 간의 지속적 논의와 소통을 통하여 분석 영역별 핵심 요소를 도출하고, 핵심 요소별주요 내용을 정리하였다.
결과 도출된 대학 원격강의의 운영 실태와 우수 사례 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교수자들은 원격강의의 장점 및 어려운 점과한계점에 대해 명확하게 인식하고 있었고, 실제 운영된 방식을 살펴보면 장점을 극대화하고 어려운 점 및 한계점을 극복하기 위한방향으로 노력하고 있었다. 둘째, 실제 운영 방식과 효과적으로 생각하는 방식 모두 학생의 온라인 학습 활동에 중점을 둔 ‘학습 활동중심형’이 가장 높게 나타났고, 다음으로 ‘실시간 화상 강의형’과 ‘강의 자료 중심형’의 순서로 나타났다. 또한 향후 원격강의와 온⋅ 오프라인 병행 수업에 대한 운영 의사는 매우 높게 나타났고, 온라인 수업의 비중에 따라 운영하고자 하는 방식은 상이하게 나타났다. 셋째, 원격강의 우수사례를 분석한 결과 학습자의 자발성과 학습 동기 강화, 원격강의에 효과적인 교수⋅학습설계 전략이 강조되었다. 특히 대학 원격수업에서 교수자의 적극적인 상호 소통과 피드백이 우수 강좌의 공통적인 특징으로 나타났다.
결론 따라서 팬더믹 상황으로 갑작스럽게 진행된 대학 원격수업에서 대학의 여건 및 교수자의 배경에 따라 다양한 방식으로 운영되었지만 교수자들은 원격수업의 특징과 장단점을 잘 인식하고 있었으며, 특히 향후 원격수업에 대하여 긍정적인 인식을 보여주었다.
또한 우수한 원격수업을 위해서는 치밀한 설계와 교수자의 다양한 운영 노력이 중요하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

영어초록

Objectives The study was to investigate the operating status of the online distance education in the university responding to COVID-19 and then identify the effective characteristics of the online class by analyzing the features of best cases that students are highly satisfied with.
Methods For doing this, the study surveyed 149 instructors to investigate the operating status of online distance education and also the contents about the 9 best practices of the online distance education were analyzed. For content analysis of best practices, key elements for each analysis area were derived through continuous discussion and communication among researchers based on documents and video materials submitted by professors, and the main contents of each key element were summarized.
Results The results of the operating status responding to the COVID-19 and the characteristics of best practices for online distance education in university are as follows. First, since the instructors recognized the benefits as well as the limitations of online distance, they made an effort to maximize the benefits and also to overcome the limitations of online distance education. Second, the type of ‘student activity-centered’ was the most focused by instructors for the class operation and recognized for the effective instruction and then followed by the ‘live-video class’ and ‘lecture-centered’ class. Third, students’ spontaneousness and motivation for learning, the strategies of effective instruction for the online class, and the feedback and communication between students and instructors were emphasized for the characteristics of the best practices for the online distance education in the university.
Conclusions Therefore, even though the online distance course in the university responding to COVID-19 were implemented in many ways in terms of the environment of university and background of the professors, the professors understood well about the features and strengths and weakness of the distance education. Significantly, the professors posses the positive attitude towards the utility of distance education in the future. Also, it was identified that well-designed online course and a lot of efforts by the instructors are critical to operate the best distance online class
