초록

The purpose of the current study was to investigate pre-service English teachers'perception on classroom observation and observation training using an observation scheme developed for this study. After a pre-study, 20 undergraduate pre-service English teachers in Seoul participated in this study. They were asked to observe class at an international alternative school in Korea, using the developed observation framework and to answer questionnaires before and after the observation. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS program. As for the results, first, the preservice English teachers were found to have high willingness to observe some aspects regarding teaching performance and to expect to have difficulties observing some aspects related to teacher’s internal aspects. Second, they had difficulties in managing the observation tool while they were observing class. Third, most of the participants agreed to receiving guidance on how to observe class and how to use the observation framework. From this study, it was implied that there would be a need to provide them with systematic supports on how to observe class. It is also expected that careful observation of class will lend itself to helping them construct their own class, becoming reflective teachers and developing their own teaching skills.
