    초록

The instant they are published, the reports on excavation survey
can be referred to as the new primary data along with literature
data in restoring the past history and culture. Therefore, it is
necessary to arrangethe results from excavation works conducted for
a long period of time in such a way that the results can be shared
with each other by scholars, even if it is difficult to clearly
summarize them to a trend, and to continue to reexamine them.
This study is a prior work to summarize the existing reports on
the Mireuk Temple site to a trend based on their accurate reading
and to lay groundwork for examining their problems. The work is
    briefly arranged as follows:
First, it can be basically pointed out that the Mireuk Temple was
built according to the same design. In addition, it seems to have
been necessary to solve construction difficulties and to cost a long
period in order to build a high-story stone structure different from
the existing high-story wooden structures. Accordingly, it is
inevitable that there is time sequence between structures. More
specifically, the survey of soil layers shows that the site and the
stylobate were built in the West Pagoda site after the corridor had
been built in the Middle Garden and a comparativeanalysis of the
remaining pagoda materials shows that the East Pagoda had its
structure changed to efficiently use stone materials after the West
Pagoda had been built. In short, the extant Mireuk Temple site
indicates that there was basically a three-stage process of building.
This shows that the Mireuk Temple site was built earlier than that
of the West Pagoda. According to the reports, the West Pagoda
was erected in 639, in the middle stage between the Middle Garden
and the Stone Pagoda in the East Garden in timing.
Like this, each new report allows one to interpret the same
structure remains of the Mireuk Temple sitein different terms based
on new findings. Accordingly, it seems necessary to review the
survey processes by and large in order to evaluate the long-term
survey results. Otherwise, the study of the Mireuk Temple site is in
danger of remaining a fragmentary understanding based on limited
    results.
Recently, the absolute year of 639 was confirmed in the
inscription of the vessel for enshrining Buddha;’s bones, enabling to
understand the erection period of the West Pagoda newly. Based on
this, various discussions are being made of the construction period of
the Mireuk Temple site. After all, a comprehensive understanding of
the existing results corresponds with the chronological data newly
found, given the fact that Mireuk Templewas built by filling up a
swamp for a long period of time.
