가짜풍수 설화에 담긴 지식인상과 탈지식권력운동 (Image of Intellectual and Anti-Knowledge Movement in Fake Geomancy Tale)

초록

선비가 가짜풍수 행세를 하는 설화에는 지식과 지식인에 대한 민중의 비판적 인식이 담겨 있다. 유식한 선비의 문자지식이 쓸모없는 것인 반면, 무식한 아내의 생활지식이 유용한 것이라는 의식이 갈무리되어 있다. 패철이 선비를 풍수로 인정하는 사회적 장치인 것처럼 지식 형식주의가 실제 지식의 수준과 상관없이 지식권력을 부여하는 폐단이 있다. 따라서 진짜풍수는 배제되고 가짜풍수가 발탁되어 우연히 명당을 잡아주고 부를 누리거나, 일상지식으로 풍수지식을 물리치고 명풍으로 인정받는다. 그러므로 무식이 유식이고 유식이 무식이며, 진짜가 가짜이고 가짜가 진짜라는 생극 논리가 포착된다.
가짜풍수가 궁지에 몰렸을 때 풍수에 밝은 며느리와 초립동이가 나타나 도움을 준다. 첫째, 누명을 쓴 며느리가 도움을 구하면서 가짜풍수에게 풍수지식으로 도움을 준다. 며느리처럼 진짜 풍수지식이 있어도 자기 문제를 해결하려 할 때는 무력하다. 그러나 가짜풍수이지만 선비처럼 며느리를 도우려고 할 때는 진짜풍수보다 우위의 기능을 발휘한다. 그러므로 지식의 진위여부보다 지식의 이타적 기능이 중요하다는 사실을 알 수 있다.
둘째, 초립동이로 나타난 이인은 탁월한 풍수지식으로 가짜풍수를 일방적으로 도와준다. 따라서 글만 읽던 선비는 풍수의 명성을 얻어서 부자로 살게 된다. 조정에서 소문을 듣고 가짜풍수를 국풍으로 초청하자, 이인이 가짜풍수의 눈을 찔러 장님을 만들고 떠나버린다. 그러므로 이인의 치명적 행위는 지식권력의 어용화를 단호하게 징벌하는 뜻을 담고 있다.
가짜풍수 설화는 지식권력에 대한 6가지 문제점을 비판적으로 제기한다. 1)문자지식에 의존하는 무능한 지식인의 문제, 2)지식형식주의에 매몰된 가짜 지식인 문제, 3)일상지식보다 쓸모없는 전문지식의 문제, 4)남의 지식으로 권력을 누리는 종속적 지식인 문제, 5)순수학문을 하는 학자들의 기본소득 보장 문제, 6)지식권력의 명성과 어용화의 문제 등이다.
이 설화의 핵심은 가짜풍수와 대조적인 이인을 등장시켜 지식권력의 문제를 제기하고 바람직한 지식인상을 제시한 점이다. 초월적 풍수지식을 갖춘 이인이되 지식권력을 한 차례도 이기적으로 사용하지 않고 가짜풍수의 생계를 보장해 주기 위해 이타적으로 사용하는 한편, 지식권력의 어용화를 원천적으로 봉쇄하고 세상에서 잠적한다. 그러므로 지식인들은 자신의 지식권력화를 성찰하고 탈지식권력운동을 실천하는 주체로 거듭나야 인간해방의 학문활동에 이를 수 있다.

영어초록

The fake tale that Seonbi who acts as fake geomancy contains criticism against knowledge and intellectual. In the fake tale, it is described that knowledge regarding letters of intelligent Seonbi is practically useless and practical knowledge of ignorant wife is more useful. Like Paechul is social mechanisms that grant Seonbi as a geomancy, knowledge formalism has a negative effect that grant knowledge power without consideration of actual intellectual level. Therefore, fake geomancy is granted instead of real geomancy which consequently, accumulates wealth by introducing wrong propitious site and even those wrong sites can be granted as a professional geomancy person who lacks professional knowledge of geomancy. Thus Senguk logic was seen that ignorant knowledge was considered as intellectual and real was considered as a fake.
When fake geomancy is forced into corner, wife who is acknowledged about geomancy and young person who understand customs (Choribdonge) can provide assistance. Firstly, wife who is falsely accused can provide knowledge of geomancy to fake geomancy person for an aid. Even those who have knowledge of geomancy such as wife could be impotent as dealing with their own problems. However, even though it is considered as a fake geomancy, it can be effective if it is used for aid to wife such as assistance from Seonbi. Therefore, it is clear that altruistic aspect of knowledge is more important than trying to identify the truth of knowledge.
Secondly, benefit from young person (Choribdonge) who is acknowledged customs can help fake geomancy person by providing excellent knowledge of geomancy. Therefore, Seonbi who only focused on academic performance can obtain a wealth by reputation of geomancy. When government invited fake geomancy person to Guk pung, Lee In left after stabbing the eye of the fake geomancy person led him blind. Therefore, Lee In's fatal action implies the punishment of knowledge power that is controlled by authority.
The fake geomancy tales criticize 6 drawbacks of knowledge power. 1) drawback of ignorant intellectuals who only rely on knowledge of letters, 2) drawback of fake intellectuals who is buried into knowledge formalism, 3) drawback of professional knowledge which is even less useful than normal knowledge, 4) drawback of passive intellectuals who is empowered by other's knowledge, 5) drawback of assurance of basic income to scholars who study pure study, 6) drawback of reputation of knowledge power and knowledge power that is controlled by authority.
The key point of this tale is to profound drawbacks of knowledge power by introducing Lee In who is completely against to fake geomancy and suggest desirable knowledge impression. Lee In, who has transcendent knowledge of geomancy and has never used knowledge power for selfish reasons and used it for guaranteeing fake geomancy person's life, disappeared from the world after preventing knowledge power to be controlled by authority. Thus intellectuals can achieve academic activity for human liberation by introspection of knowledge power and being as a anti-knowledge power movement.
