김정일 시대 대남 위협인식 분석: ‘로동신문’의 4대 키워드를 중심으로 (Kim Jong Il’s Perception of Threats to South Korea: Focusing on the Four Keywords of ‘Rodong Shinmun’)

초록

연구 목적: 본 연구는 김정일 시대(1996~2011년) 로동신문의 4대 핵심 키워드 선정하여 내용분석을 통한 대남안보 위협인식을 분석하는 데 목적을 두었다.
연구 방법: 김정일 시대 로동신문에서 강조되고 있는 4대 핵심 키워드인 ‘전쟁’, ‘도발’, ‘북침’, ‘분쟁’을 ‘사용 횟수’, ‘연도별 분포’, ‘단어군’의 분포 등 내용분석 방법을 적용하였다.
연구 내용: 4대 핵심 키워드의 사용 횟수는 총 3,030회였다. ‘전쟁’은 핵 보유의 정당성을 주장하며, ‘도발’은 남한의 문제 행동에 대한 바로 잡음을 말한다. ‘북침’은 한미연합훈련시 주장하며, ‘분쟁’은 남한과 미국을 제외한 타국과의 평화적 문제 해결책으로 도출되었다.
결론 및 제언: 김정일 시대 4대 핵심 키워드를 분석한 결과 남북미 관계에 있어서 수세적인 입장이다. 책임을 남한과 미국으로 전가하며, 핵 개발과 보유의 정당성을 주장하였다. 남북미 관계를 평화적으로 진행하되, 미국을 제외한 남북 관계개선을 요구하는 이중적인 모습을 보였다. 향후 김정일･김정은 시대 연구를 통하여 연구결과의 신뢰성을 확대할 필요가 있을 것이다.

영어초록

The study selected four keywords, “war”, “provocation”, “invasion of North Korea”, and “conflict”, which symbolize security threats, as keywords for North Korea's security committee on South Korea, and analyzed them as four keywords, focusing on the Rodong Sinmun from 1996 to 2011. As a result of the analysis, the most commonly used “war” was 2,001 times, “provocation” was 562 times, “invasion of North Korea” was 393 times, and “conflict” was 69 times. The most commonly used keyword distribution by year was in the order of conflict in 1997, “war” in 2003, and provocation and North Korean invasion in 2010. In terms of strategic intentions, “war” is used to slander South Korea's South Korea-U.S. joint drills and fear of regime collapse by the United States, and claims the legitimacy of nuclear possession as a self-defense measure to prevent war. “Provocation” is used to correct South Korea's problematic behavior, and the cause of the “Cheonan Ship Attack” and “Yeonpyeong Island shelling provocation” was passed on to South Korea and the United States. “invasion of North Korea” is used in their own advantage, and similar to “provocation”, it is used to shift the responsibility for the engagement to South Korea and the United States. Disputes appear with the emphasis on peaceful resolution of trade disputes and resource issues in countries other than South Korea, and indirectly express the need to resolve problems except for the United States in inter-Korean relations. As a result, North Korea is in a defensive position in U.S.-North Korea relations, shifting the blame for the problem to South Korea and the United States, and insisting on the legitimacy of nuclear development and possession. In addition, it is analyzed that inter-Korean relations should proceed peacefully, but the two Koreas, excluding the United States, are demanding improvement in relations.
