‘판춘문예’의 서사전략 —네이트판 일상 서사의 서사전략과 독자의 수용 양상을 중심으로 (Narrative Strategies in the "Literary Contest in Pann Spring" —Focusing on the Strategies of Daily Narratives and the Acceptance Patterns of Readers on Nate Pann)

초록

2000년대 이후 간헐적으로 제기되어 온 인터넷 문학의 가능성에 대한 질문은, 현재의 시점에서는 이미 인터넷 문학의 존재 양태에 대한 탐구로 이행되고 있는 것처럼 보인다. 하지만 인터넷 문학에 대한 논의가 온라인에서 생산되는 서사에 대한 탐구 전반을 포괄하기는 어렵다. 인터넷 문학이라는 개념으로는 기존의 ‘문학’과는 변별되는, 스스로의 문학성을 명확히 자각하지 않는 다양한 형식의 일상적․고백적 글쓰기를 조명하는데 한계가 있기 때문이다. 그러므로 이 글에서는 그동안 게시글의 ‘조작’ 여부에만 관심이 집중되었던, 그렇기에 문학적 탐구의 범주에 포함될 수 없었던 온라인의 고백적 글쓰기에 나타나는 서사 전략과 독자의 수용 양상을 분석하고자 시도했다.
이를 위해 본고에서는 일상에 관한 고백적 글쓰기가 중점적으로 게시되는 대표적 커뮤니티인 네이트판의 인기 게시물들을 분석하였다. 이 글들은 사연 조작에 대한 독자들의 의심으로 인해 흔히 ‘판춘문예’라고도 불리는데, 서술자들은 다양한 방식으로 게시자와 서사의 진정성을 보여주며 의혹을 불식시키려 노력한다. 물론 이러한 전략에도 불구하고 각각의 게시글이 얼마만큼의 진실을 담보하는지는 끝끝내 증명될 수 없는 것이다. 하지만 독자들은 조작에 대한 의심을 제기하면서도 서사가 제기하는 화제에 대한 토론에 뛰어드는 이중적인 모습을 보이는데, 이는 글의 진실성 보다는 글의 재미나 글이 자아내는 공분, 그 글로 인해 열리는 토론과 성토의 공간 자체가 더 중요한 것일지도 모른다는 사실을 드러낸다.
이처럼 ‘판춘문예’라고 불리는 글쓰기는 자연스럽게 수필과 소설의 사이 범주에 자리잡았으며, 오프라인에서의 논의와 달리 글의 조작 여부는 작성자나 독자 모두에게 그렇게 중요하지 않은 것처럼 보인다. 독자들은 글의 조작 여부를 끊임없이 의심하지만, 그러한 의심에도 불구하고 글이 유발하는 도덕적․윤리적 토론에 적극적으로 뛰어들며 반응하는 것이다. 그런 점에서 ‘판춘문예’는 2000년대 이후의 웹에서 서사가 생산․소비되는 다양한 양상을 제시하는, 서사에 관한 유저들의 모순된 욕망들을 보여주는 조감도이기도 하다.

영어초록

A question about the possibilities of internet literature, which has been sporadically raised since the 2000s, is seemingly now moving to an inquiry into the existential aspects of internet literature. However, it is difficult for discussions about internet literature to encompass the overall inquiry into narratives produced online. The concept of internet literature has limitations when it comes to shedding light on daily and confessional writing of various forms. Such writing, while distinguished from the old "literature", is not clearly aware of its own literary value. Thus, this study sets out to analyze the acceptance patterns of confessional online writing amongst its readers, as well as its narrative strategies which used to attract attention only for "fabrication" and was thus not included in the category of literary inquiry.
For this purpose, the body of the research focused on popular postings on Nate Pann, one of the prominent communities where confessional writing about daily life happens intensively. Anonymous writers' confessional writing about daily life on Nate Pann is commonly called "Literary Contest in Pann Spring". The nickname was attributed to the suspicion that the anecdotes were fabricated to incite reader responses using provocative materials and development. As a result, the writers of "Literary Contest in Pann Spring" started using various methods to show their authenticity along with the authenticity of their narratives to demonstrate the validity of their stories. Despite these strategies, however, it can never be demonstrated to the end that each story depicts what actually happened due to the characteristics of anonymous writing. Nonetheless, it does not seem important whether the stories are completely true or not. Readers jump into debates about the topics of narratives even in the middle of rising suspicion for fabrication, which reveals that what is important is not in fact the truth but the entertainment, public rage kindled, or the space itself for discussion and denunciation created by the story.
The writing style of "Literary Contest in Pann Spring" exists somewhere between essays and novels. Unlike offline discussions, whether stories are fabricated or not does not seem very important to their writers and readers alike. Readers consistently raise suspicion of fabrication, but they still show active responses by jumping into moral and ethical discussions based on the stories. In this sense, the "Literary Contest in Pann Spring" offers a bird's-eye view of various patterns of narratives being produced and consumed on the web and the users' contradictory desires for them.
