초록

· 연구 주제: 산업단지는 그것을 구성하는 주체들과 그 주체들이 만들어낸 질서나 시스템으로 인해 끊임없이 변화해 간다. 본 연구는 산업단지가 조성된 후 기간이 경과해 가는 동안 산업단지 조성 연령이 지역경제 성장에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지 실증적으로 분석한다.
· 연구 배경: 중앙 및 지방 정부가 기존 산업단지에 대한 면밀한 성과 평가 없이 신규 단지 조성을 중심으로 한 지역전략산업 클러스터 조성에 초점을 두고 있다. 이에 기존 산업단지의 성과를 특히, 산업단지의 성숙도(조성 연령)에 따른 지역경제에의 영향 측면에서 바라보고 이를 평가해 보는 연구의 필요성이 요구된다.
· 선행연구와의 차이점: 산업단지 관련 연구는 입지 결정 요인, 입주기업 특성 분석 등 경제지리학적 관점의 연구가 대부분이고, 특정 지역 산업단지가 지역경제에 미친 영향을 분석하고 그 연구들 중에 산업단지의 노후화로 인한 지역경제 기여의 한계를 지적한 연구가 많다. 반면, 산업단지를 성숙․성장이라는 관점에서 지역경제와의 관계에 접근한 연구는 부족하다. 본 연구는 산업단지를 동적․유기체적 관점에서 바라보고, 산업단지가 조성된 후 기간이 경과해 가면서 전반적으로 지역 소득에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 패널회귀 분석을 통해 밝혀내었다.
· 연구방법: 산업단지 조성 연령을 독립변수로 설정하고 1인당 지역총소득을 종속변수로 하는 패널회귀 분석을 실시하고, 산업단지 내에 지역특화센터의 유무가 산업단지 조성 연령과 지역총소득 간의 관계를 강화했는지 분석하였다. 또한 내생성 통제를 위해 Heckman 2 stage model을 사용한 추가분석도 하였다.
· 연구결과: 산업단지 조성 연령이 높을수록 1인당 지역총소득이 높고 산업단지 내 지역특화센터가 있을 때 그 영향이 더 강화된다는 결과가 패널회귀 분석과 2 Stage Model 추가 분석 모두에서 일관되게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 산업단지에 대한 투자는 보다 장기적인 관점에서 지속적으로 이뤄져야 하고 지역특화센터 등을 통해 산업단지의 고도화를 지원함으로써 지역경제 성장에 도움을 줄 수 있음을 말해 준다.
· 공헌점 및 기대효과: 산업단지가 오래될수록 지역소득 성장에 긍정적 영향을 줄 수 있다는 본 연구의 결과는 신규 산업단지 조성에 초점이 맞춰진 정부 정책을 평가해 볼 필요성의 근거를 마련하고, 정부의 산업단지 투자 우선순위에 대한 기준을 제안함으로써 정부 재정의 효율적 활용에 기여할 수 있다.

· Research topics: Industrial complexes continuously evolve due to the entities that constitute them and the order or systems these entities create. This study empirically analyzes how the age of industrial complexes affects regional economic growth over time after their establishment.
· Research background: The central and local governments are focusing on creating regional strategic industrial clusters centered around the establishment of new industrial complexes, without a thorough performance evaluation of existing ones. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct studies that evaluate the performance of existing industrial complexes, particularly in terms of their impact on the regional economy based on the maturity (age) of these complexes.
· Differences from prior research: Most studies related to industrial complexes are from an economic geography perspective, focusing on factors determining location decisions and analyzing the characteristics of resident firms. Many studies analyze the impact of specific regional industrial complexes on the local economy and point out the limitations of their contributions due to aging. In contrast, there is a lack of research that approaches the relationship between industrial complexes and the regional economy from the perspective of maturity and growth of industrial complexes. This study views industrial complexes from a dynamic and organic perspective and uses panel regression analysis to reveal how industrial complexes have generally impacted regional income over time as they mature.
· Research method: A panel regression analysis was conducted with the age of industrial complexes as the independent variable and per capita gross regional income as the dependent variable. The study also examined whether the presence of regional specialized centers within industrial complexes strengthened the relationship between the age of the industrial complex and gross regional income. Additionally, to control for endogeneity, a Heckman two-stage model was used for further analysis.
· Research results: Older industrial complexes are associated with higher per capita gross regional income, and this effect is amplified when there are regional specialized centers within the industrial complexes. These findings were consistent in the additional analysis using the two-stage model. These results indicate that investment in industrial complexes should be continuous from a long-term perspective and that supporting the advancement of industrial complexes through regional specialization centers can contribute to regional economic growth.
· Contribution points and expected effects: The findings of this study, which suggest that older industrial complexes can positively impact regional income growth, provide a basis for the argument that government policies focused on establishing new industrial complexes need to be evaluated. Furthermore, by proposing criteria for prioritizing government investment in industrial complexes, these findings can contribute to the efficient utilization of government budgets.
