초·중등 학생 역사의식 조사 사례 분석 : “일제 잔재 청산 프로젝트”를 중심으로 (A Case Study on the Historical Consciousness of Elementary and Secondary Students : Focusing on "Japanese Remaining Clearance Project")

초록

본 연구는 K 지역 학생을 대상으로 “일제 잔재 청산 프로젝트” 사업을 추진하기 위해 역사의식 조사를 실시하고그 결과를 분석한 글이다. 사업 추진을 위한 사전 진단 성격을 지니는 조사이며 학생이 주도하여 일제 잔재를 발굴하고‘그 잔재에 대해 논증하며 합의하는’ 토론 활동을 하도록 유도한 조사이다. 일제 잔재와 친일 잔재는 유사한 용어로이해되는 경향이 있는데, ‘친일 잔재’ 표현의 논쟁적 성격을 감안하여 ‘일제 잔재’ 용어로 사업이 추진되었으며, ‘논쟁’이되는 주제를 학생이 주도하여 토론하고 결론에 이를 수 있도록 단계적으로 질문지를 구성하였다.
응답 자료를 분석한 결과 학생들은 ‘일제 잔재’ 개념을 일제강점기 때 우리나라에 유입되어 아직까지 사용하거나남아있는 일본어나 문화, 사고방식 등을 총체적으로 일컫는 것으로 대체로 인식하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또 토론을통해 청산 여부나 방법을 제안하게 한 결과, 많은 학생이 청산에 찬성하는 일반적인 경향을 보였으나, 이와 달리청산을 반대하는 의견도 나타났다. 반대하는 이유는 급작스러운 청산보다는 점진적 변화와 민주적 절차를 준수할필요 등을 제시하는 의견이 있었다.
주목할 점은 일제 잔재 청산에 미온적인 태도를 보일수록 오히려 민주적 절차를 제안하는 의견이 많았다는 것이다.
잔재를 청산하는 방안으로 학생들이 제시한 방법은 학교 교육 활동 속에서 해결하는 방법, 홍보와 캠페인을 통한사회 운동으로 확산하는 방법, 그리고 일제 잔재 청산을 위한 수업 활동을 제안하였다.

영어초록

This study is an article that conducts a historical consciousness survey and analyzes the results to promote the "Japanese Remaining Clearance Project" project for students in K area. The survey, which has the nature of a pre-diagnosis for the project, led students to take the initiative in discovering remnants of Japanese colonial rule and engaging in "discussing and agreeing" discussion activities. The remnants of Japanese colonial rule and pro-Japanese remnants tend to be understood in similar terms, which were covered in the term "Japanese remnants" in consideration of the controversial nature of the "pro-Japanese remnants" expression, and the questionnaires were organized step by step so that students could reach their own conclusions by keeping the issue open.
The survey was designed as a step for students to understand the concept of remnants of Japanese colonial rule, to find and argue about issues, and to reach an agreement through liquidation. Japanese legacy that students understand concepts are used or still have so far in our country or remain as Japanese or introduced during Japanese occupation. Collectively, the culture and mentality which could see that known to be.
The remains of the Japanese colonial rule, through which the students went through the thesis process, were related to the operation of national rites, culture, language and education courses. Finally, on the issue of liquidation proposed for the experience of agreement, the students generally agreed, but opposed the liquidation. They opposed the collective liquidation and called for gradual changes, such as the need to take time to prepare alternatives.
What is unique is that the more lukewarm the opinion on liquidation, the more generally the opinion suggests democratic procedures. In other words, they seemed to be looking for alternatives in terms of solutions to citizenship education. It was suggested that the school should be responsible as a method of liquidation, as well as be released from public relations or campaigns and curricula. In the course of the investigation, it was an experience that shaped a sense of history, and the results of the students' investigation also drew significant points that could have implications for citizenship education.
