초록

본 연구의 목적은 다문화가정 어머니의 문화적응 스트레스가 자녀의 학교적응에 미치는 영향을살펴보고 매개변인인 자녀의 성취동기가 학교적응에 미치는 매개효과를 검증하는 것이다. 본 연구는 ‘2018년 제8차 다문화청소년 패널 종단연구’자료를 사용하여 매개회귀분석과 연구모형의 적합도를 분석하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학교적응 중 교사와의 관계에서 자녀의 성별에 따른 차이가 나타났다. 즉 남학생이 여학생보다 교사와의 관계가 더 긍정적이었다. 교우관계에서는자녀의 연령이 어릴수록 교우관계가 더 좋은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 다문화가정 어머니의 학력이높을수록 어머니의 문화적응 스트레스가 적고, 자녀의 성취동기가 높으며 학교에서 적응을 더 잘하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 다문화가정 어머니의 문화적응 스트레스가 학교적응에 부적으로 유의한영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 어머니의 문화적응 스트레스가 적을수록 자녀가 학교에서 적응을잘하는 것을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 다문화가정 어머니의 문화적응 스트레스는 학교적응에 직접적으로영향을 미치고 자녀의 성취동기가 학교적응에 간접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 다문화가정이라는 특수한 사회적 구조보다는 다문화가정 내의 심리적 변인인 다문화가정 어머니의 문화적응 스트레스 변인에 초점을 두고 어머니의 역할을 강조한 연구목적에 부합되었다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.

영어초록

This study examines the role of multicultural mothers’ stress from cultural adaptation on adolescent children's school adaptations with special emphasis on the mediating role of children's aspirational motivations. Based on data from the 2018 8th Multicultural Family Longitudinal Panel Research, this study conducts and evaluates mediation analyses, and finds the followings: Firstly, we find the gender differences in the multicultural students’ relationship with teachers while they are adapting to school. In particular, male students are more likely to show positive relationships with teachers than female students. We also find that age matters when forming friendships for multicultural students. Moreover, there are statistically significant differences in cultural adaptation stress, children’s aspirational motivations, school adaptation, and school performance by mothers’ educational level. In the children’s aspirational motivations, it found that the younger the age of multicultural adolescents, the better the peer relationship. In terms of mother’s educational level, it found that the higher the mothers’ educational level, the lower the mother's acculturation stress and the higher the children’s aspirational motivations, the better the adaptation at school. Secondly, we find that multicultural mothers’ stress from cultural adaptation has significant effects on children's adaptations to school. More specifically, lower stress from cultural adaption led to better adaptations to school. Thirdly, we find the direct effect of multicultural mothers’ stress from cultural adaptation on children's adaptations to school, and that this effect is mediated by children’s aspirational motivations. The significance of this study is that it emphasizes the role of mothers focusing on the acculturation stress variable of mothers of multicultural families. This is a psychological variable within multicultural families rather than a special social structure of multicultural families.
