주요고객에 대한 매출집중도가 재무성과에 미치는 영향: 특수관계자가 주요고객인 경우 조절 효과 (Impact of Sales Concentration on Major Customers on Financial Performance when Related Parties are Major Customers)

초록

[연구목적] 본 연구의 목적은 주요고객에 대한 매출집중도가 재무성과에 미치는 영향과특수관계자 고객의 유무에 따른 차이가 있는지 분석하는 것이다.
[연구방법] 본 연구에서는 거래소와 코스닥상장기업을 모두 포함하여 2011년부터 의무공시되는 주요고객 의존도 정보를 이용하여, 공급기업의 주요고객 의존도가 공급기업의수익성과 운전자본 등에 미치는 영향을 실증 검증하고, 특수관계자 고객의 조절효과를 검증한다.
[연구결과] 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 주요고객에 대한 매출집중도가 높을수록 매출총이익률이 낮아지는 것으로 나타났으나, 이러한 효과가 판매 및 일반관리비의 절감에 의하여 상쇄되는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 주요고객이 특수관계자인 경우에 특수관계자가 아닌 경우에 비하여 고객집중도와 수익성의 관계에 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 둘째, 주요고객 매출집중도가 높을수록 매출채권회전기간과 재고자산 회전기간의 단축을 통하여 현금회전기간이 단축되는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 특수관계자가 주요고객인경우에 매출채권회전기간이 상대적으로 길어서 현금회전기간에 불리한 영향이 있는 것으로 나타났다.
[연구의 시사점] 첫째, 본 연구에서는 주요고객에 대한 매출집중도가 높을수록 공급기업의 협상력이 약화되어 부정적인 영향을 미친다는 주장이 많지만, 광고비나 물류 및 재고관리비용 등의 절감과 같은 긍정적인 효과가 존재한다는 점을 확인하였다. 둘째, 본 연구결과는 주요고객이 특수관계자인 경우에 고객기업의 재무적 상황을 개선하는 방향으로거래가 이루어질 수 있다는 점을 확인하였다는 점에서 의미가 있다.

영어초록

[Purpose] The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of sales concentration on major customers on financial performance and whether there is a difference depending on the presence or absence of related party customers.
[Methodology] In this study, we empirically analyze the impact of a supplier’s dependence on major customers on the supplier’s profitability and working capital, using major customer concentration information that has been mandatory since 2011, including both KOSPI and KOSDAQ listed companies, and analyze the moderating effect of related－party customers.
[Findings] The main research results are as follows. First, the higher the concentration of sales to major customers, the greater the adverse impact on gross profit margin due to pressure to reduce sales prices. However, this effect was found to be offset by the reduction in selling and general admistration expenses.
And even when the major customer is a related party, it was found that there was no differentially advantageous or unfavorable effect on profitability compared to the case where the major customer was not a related party. Second, it was analyzed that the higher the sales concentration of major customers, the shorter the cash turnover period through the shortening of the accounts receivable collection period and inventory turnover period. However, in the case where a related party is a major customer, the accounts receivable turnover period is relatively long, so it was analyzed that there is an unfavorable effect on the cash turnover period.
[Implications] First, in this study, there are many claims that the higher the concentration of sales to major customers, the weaker the bargaining power of the supplier company, which has a negative impact, but it was also confirmed that there are positive effects such as reductions in advertising costs and inventory costs. Second, the results of this study confirmed that when a major customer is a related party, transactions can be utilized in a way that improves the profitability or financial situation of the customer company.
