초록

본 연구는 국공립어린이집 원장이 처음으로 어린이집을 운영하는 과정에서 경험하는 어려움과 이를 극복해 나가는 과정을 탐색하고자 하는 목적에서 이루어졌다. 이러한 연구목적에 따라 국공립어린이집 원장을 대상으로 참여관찰을 실시하였고 심층면담, 저널쓰기 등을 통해 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 자료 분석에 따른 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국공립어린이집을 처음으로 운영하는 원장의 어려움은 부모와 교사, 지역사회로부터 들려오는 전임원장과의 비교, 모든 일을 민원으로 해결하려는 학부모와 기존 체제만을 고수하려는 교사, 예산 집행에 대한 부담감으로 나타났다. 이 같은 어려움은 복합적으로 작용함으로써 어린이집의 바람직한 운영을 방해하는 요인이 될 수 있으므로 이를 예방하기 위한 교육과 지원체계가 마련되어야 한다. 둘째, 국공립어린이집 원장의 어려움을 극복해나가는 과정을 분석한 결과 친밀감과 신뢰감 형성을 위해 노력하기, 기존체제에 순응하는 변화 추구하기, 봉사활동을 통해 공감대 형성하기로 나타났다. 즉, 원장은 원아, 교사, 학부모, 지역사회와의 상호교류를 통해 관계를 형성하고 신뢰받는 교육자로서의 이미지를 구축하여 나가고자 하였다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is two-fold: first, to examine the difficulties directors of national and public child care center experience in the process of operating a center for the first time and second, to explore the process of overcoming those difficulties. To this end, data were collected from participatory observation and in-depth interviews were conducted with directors of national and public child care centers and from journals kept by them. Analyses results reveal firstly, that the difficulties first-time directors face derive from comparisons to previous directors made by parents, teachers, and the community; from parents who try to resolve all problems through complaints and from teachers who cling to the existing system, and, as well, from the pressures of budget execution. It must be noted that most of these difficulties could be avoided if an education and support system were in place to prevent them, since their effects are multiple and complex and interfere with a desirable operation of any center. This being said, part two of this study, analyzing the process of overcoming the difficulties described in part one, relates to preventative measures as much as it does to remediation. Secondly, with regard to the processers involved in overcoming difficulties, the results indicate the newly appointed directors made great effort to build closeness and credibility, pursuing changes within the existing system, and developing bonds of empathy through volunteer activities. In other words, the newly appointed directors tried to build the image of a trusted educator by developing relationships through mutual exchange with the children, teachers, parents, and the community.
