18-19세기 한중 교류척독집의 수집 및 데이터베이스 구축 방안 (Measures for Collection of Letters with Chinese Intellectuals of Qing Dynasty in 18 to 19 Century and for Its Database Establishment)

초록

병자호란 이후 청나라에 조공(朝貢) 관계를 맺고도, 조선 문인들은 청나라를 중화(中華)로 여기지 않았다. 그랬기에 연행(燕行) 초기에는 기록을 별로 남기지 않았으며, 북경(北京)에 가서도 그곳 지식인들과 한시를 주고받거나 필담(筆談)을 나누지 않았다. 1765년의 홍대용(洪大容), 김재행(金在行)이나 1780년의 박지원(朴趾源)에 와서야 청나라 지식인들과 필담을 나누거나 편지를 주고받게 되었다. 청나라를 배우자고 하는 북학파(北學派)가 이때부터 시작되었다.
지금까지 한중 문화교류 연구자료로 연행록을 주로 이용했지만, 연행록은 시간적으로나 공간적으로 1회적인 기록일 뿐만 아니라, 귀국한 뒤에 혼자 기록한 일방적인 기록이다. 그에 비해서 척독(尺牘, 편지)은 시간과 공간을 초월하여 여러 차례 주고받을 수 있는 기록인데다, 두 사람이 주고받는 쌍방적인 기록이다. 두 나라 지식인의 상호 인식을 연구할 수 있는 중요한 자료이다.
지금까지는 척독집이 한 권 발견될 때마다 그 자료를 소개하는 논문을 썼지만, 우리 팀에서 30여 종의 척독집을 수집하고 보니, 전체 내용을 입력해서 데이터베이스를 구축하는 것이 효과적인 연구방법임을 알게 되었다. 이 과정은 둘로 나뉘어진다. 1차 과정은 척독집을 사진 찍어 이미지 데이터를 만들고, 한문 원문을 입력한 다음 한글로 번역하여, 기계가 읽고 판독할 수 있는 디지털 자료로 변환하는 과정이다. 2차 과정은 이 자료들을 의미있는 정보단위(entity)별로 구분하고, 그 단위간 조직적 연계를 통하여 자료의 내용을 고도로 구조화하여, 도서관·기록관·박물관의 기능을 통합하여 서비스하는 복합시설인 라키비움(Larchiveum)까지 구축하는 과정이다.
이 논문에서 시도하는 라키비움 개념은 한중 교류척독집뿐만 아니라 조선시대 서간문, 한일 통신사기록 등에도 활용할 수 있는 새로운 시도이다.

영어초록

The Korean intellectuals of the Joseon Dynasty did not recognize the Qing Dynasty as the legitimate Middle Kingdom, although the Sino-Korean tribute relation was formed after the Manchu war of 1636. They had left few logs of their travel to Beijing and they had been reluctant to exchange conversation or Chinese poems by writing with the Chinese intellectuals when in Beijing, until Hong Daeyong and Kim Jaehaeng visited Beijing in 1765 and Park Jiwon in 1780. The intellectuals in Joseon began exchanging written conversations and letters with the Chinese intellectuals and this initiated the school of Northern studies, or Bukhakpa, that studied advanced culture of the Qing dynasty.
The Travel log of Special Envoys to Beijing, or Yeonhaengrok, has been mostly used for study on the Sino-Korea cultural exchanges, however, it is a log for one-time event in terms of time and space, and it is a document that was written solely by the Korean envoy after he came back to Korea. On the other hand, given that letters are the archive of multiple exchanges between two people that are not constrained to time and space, the letter exchanges are an important data for the study of the mutual recognition of the intellectuals of the two countries.
Every time a collection of letter is found, a paper on the introduction of the book has been written, so far. However, we have found that it would be more effective to establish a database that all content of the letter collections that were found, as we had already collected 37 books of the letter exchange collections. This method has two steps--the first step is digitalization of data, creating image data of the books by taking photographs, making input of original text in Chinese letters, and translating it into Korean so that it would be read by machine; the second step is establishment of Larchiveum, a comprehensive service facility that integrates the functions of library, archive, and museum. In the second step, all data created in the first step are divided by the unit of the information entities that have each meaning and the units are systematically connected so that the content of the data would be highly structuralized.
The concept of Larchiveum introduced in this paper is a new approach to study not only the collection of letter exchanges between Korea and China, but also the log of special envoys between Korea and Japan.
