기독교 신앙을 가진 어린이집 원장의 폐원 경험에 관한 질적연구 (A Qualitative Study of the Closing Experiences of Christian Childcare Center Directors)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 어린이집 폐원을 경험한 기독교인 원장을 대상으로 교육자로서의 소명의 의미를 파악하여 관련 분야에 제언하기 위함이다. 이와 같은 목적을 위해 면담 시점으로부터 5년 이내에 어린이집 폐원 경험을 한 기독교인 원장 8명과 면담하여 자료를 분석하였다. 먼저 연구참여자들의 운영 철학 및 원리는 몸과 마음이 건강하도록 지원하기, 건강한 인성의 형성, 하나님 안에서 꿈을 꾸는 어린이로 양육하는 것이었다. 원장들은 교사다움을 유지하고 어린이집이나 원장에 대한 불평을 금하는 교사 원칙도 제시하였다. 연구참여자들이 운영하는 어린이집의 특성화 프로그램도 발견되었는데, 기독교교육 실천, 부모교육 및 상담, 영어교육·성경교육·유아교육의 동시 실천, 경제적으로 어려운 가정에 원비나 특강비 면제 등이며, 따뜻한 돌봄을 실천한 사례들이 포함되어 있었다. 이와 같은 실천을 통하여 부모들의 인정을 받는 어린이집, 불신자의 구원, 부족한 정원 수의 충원, 졸업생의 방문을 받는 결과가 나타났다. 폐원의 원인은 운영난, 아동학대 신고, 보육·기독교교육의 본질에서 벗어난 현장, 재개발로 인한 이전 실패, 임대료 인상, 어린이집 두 개 운영자를 타켓으로 한 평가의 어려움 등으로 나타났다. 폐원을 경험한 원장들의 진로는 주간보호센터 운영 희망, 원예치료사로 이직, 월급 원장으로 취업, 2개소 운영에서 1개소 운영 등이었고, 재취업 과정에서 연령의 한계를 경험했다는 연구참여 자들도 있었다. 폐원의 의미는 하나님의 돌보심·훈련·복 경험, 새로운 소명 발견, 인도하심 대로 따르는 훈련, 쉼 등으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 기초로 연구자는 어린이집 폐원에 관한 사회적 관심, 원장들을 대상으로 직업적성 검사 실시, 그리고 어린이집 원장으로서의 경력과 연계된 직업으로의 이직 가능성이 확대되기를 제안한다. 마지막으로 기독교 유관기관에서 고난에 대한 교육과 유형별 고난 극복 프로그램을 실시할 것을 제안한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to make recommendations to the field by identifying the meaning the calling as an educator among Christian directors who have experienced the closure of a childcare center. To reach this goal, eight Christian directors who had closed their childcare centers within five years at the time of interview were interviewed and their meaning of pedagogy and closure were analyzed. Their operating philosophy and principles were to support young children’s healthy minds and bodies, build their healthy character, and raise children to be dreamers in God. The directors also laid out principles for the teachers to behave like teachers and not complain about the center or the directors. The participants' unique programs included Christian education practices, parent education and counseling, simultaneous English, Bible, and early childhood education, waiving fees for families experiencing financial hardship, and practice of warm care. These practices have resulted in parental approval, salvation of unbelievers, filling the shortage of children, and visits from alumni. Reasons cited for closure included financial difficulties in management, reports of child abuse, a context that was not childcare or Christian education in nature, failure to relocate the center due to redevelopment, rent increases, and difficulties in evaluation targeting the director of two childcare centers. After closing, the directors' career paths included wanting to run a daycare center for the elderly, moving to a horticultural therapist, becoming a salaried director, and downsizing from two childcare centers to one while some experienced the limitations of age. Meanings of closure included experiencing God's care, discipline, and blessings, discovering a new calling, discipline to follow God's lead, and rest. Based on the findings of this study, the researcher proposes social attention to the closure of childcare centers, the implementation of vocational tests for the directors, and transferability to jobs related to their career as a childcare directors. Finally, the researcher suggests that Christian institutions provide education about suffering and programs for overcoming different types of suffering.
