As the platform became the predominant business model of the present day, there has been an increasing demand for studies that aim to determine the proper level of openness and control in platform management. This study suggests ways to balance openness and control of platform management based on the thinking process and the TRIZ principles. This study examines the situation in which the openness and control in platform management conflict. We describe the situation using the evaporation cloud(EC) of thinking process(TP). The study postulates that two factors play an essential role in ensuring continuous success of a platform: optimum use of complimentary resources provided by the developers, and the network effect produced by facilitating developers' access to the platform. We also present different ways to find the errors in the assumptions and premises on the EC. Finally, we suggest ways to achieve the adequate level of openness and control. To solve the contradiction between the openness and control, we use four separation methods of TRIZ: separation in space, separation in time, separation upon condition, separation between the parts and the whole. Firstly, as the separation in space. we suggest some separating ways on the basis of H/W and S/W, the functional or applying area in platform infrastructure, and the type of developers for the platform. Secondly, as the separation in time, we suggest that the method of changing from control to open policy on the basis of flow of time or platform's life cycle. Thirdly, as the separation upon condition, we suggest that method of applying differently the level of openness and control according to the situational factors such as negotiation power, dependency, and possibility of replacement of complementor. Fourthly, as the separating method of the parts and the whole, we suggest that the open governance policy on platform can be applied widely in a whole platform, sometimes the control policy can be applied flexibly according to conditions such as the need of control and management. Some limitations of this study are presented shortly for further research.
