예수의 죄 용서 선언에 드러난 자기 이해-가버나움 집에서 죄 용서 선언(막 2:1-12)을 중심으로- (Jesus’s Self-Understanding in the Light of His Pronouncement of Forgiveness of Sins -An Study of Mark 2:1-12-)

가버나움 집에서 예수는 자신에 대한 그들의 믿음을 근거로 중풍 병자의 죄가 용서받았다고 선언하였다. 예수의 이런 행동은 주위에 있던 서기관들의 분노를 쌓았고 신성모독을 한다는 비난을 받기에 이르렀다. 이러한 비난은 죄 용서 선언이 이루어지기 위해 충족돼야 하는 것으로 믿어진 조건인 성전 제의라는 법적 절차를 거치지 않은 사람에게 예수가 죄 용서에 관한 하나님의 판단을 임의적으로 내려 하나님의 사죄 권한을 침범한 것으로 여겼기 때문에 나온 것이다. 예수의 죄 용서 선언 이면에는 자신이 하나님의 판단을 스스로 내릴 수 있는 전권을 가진 이라는 자기 이해가 있었다. 이런 자기 이해는 죄 용서를 선언 할 수 있는 자신의 권위를 증명하고자 인자의 권위에 호소하려는 예수의 시도를 통해 분명해진다. 예수가 인용한 인자는 다니엘의 인물로서 하나님으로부터 전권을 받은 이였기에, 인자로서 자신은 하나님의 권위를 가지고 한 사람이 죄를 용서받을 수 있을지 어쩔지를 판단할 수 있다고 주장한 것이다. 뿐만 아니라, 성전 바깥에서 성전 안에서 이뤄져야 하는 죄 용서를 선언 예수는 자신이 성전의 권위 하에 있는 인물이 아니라 성전을 세우신 하나님의 권위에 준하는, 그러므로 성전을 능가하는 권위를 가진 인물로 이해하고 있었던 것으로 보아야 한다.

영어초록

Who was Jesus? In order to answer this question the article pays special attention to Jesus' forgiveness of sins proclaimed to a paralytic at Capernaum(Mk 2:1-12). The reason for choosing the episode is twofold. One is that 2:1-12 has the focal theme, Jesus' self-understanding as the son of man, which has been considered as a key to understanding who Jesus was by modern New Testament scholars. The other is that both the titles and works of Jesus are prominent in the episode. Although the major concern of Jesus research in the last decades was focused on titles ascribed to Jesus, there is no doubt that the works(teachings and actions) of Jesus should not be overlooked in the study of Christology. Because the cores of the controversy made between Jesus and his opponents are Jesus' proclamation of forgiveness of sins and then the scribes' proclamation of blasphemy against him, in order to know on what basis Jesus forgave sins and what such a forgiveness of sins meant for his contemporaries, the article, first of all, deals with many conditions(repentance, temple rituals, punishment and suffering, death, baptism and bath) for the forgiveness of sins in the second temple Judaism. This study shows that Jesus' forgiveness of sins proclaimed only on the basis of the paralytic's faith of him, which does not satisfy such conditions at all, must have been provocative in the eyes of his contemporaries. Given, in particular, that the opponents were scribes who worked for preserving the temple institutions, as a ordinary Jew Jesus' forgiveness of sins proclaimed without the temple rituals must have been considered not only the temple established according to his command but also a despise of God who is its establisher.
If so, what made Jesus do such a provocative proclamation? The argument of the article is that Jesus' self-understanding as the one who has the authority superior to the authority of the temple and equivalent to God, an establisher of the temple, is behind his proclamation of the forgiveness of sins. The article makes attempts to prove the argument on the basis of the title “the son of man”, which is used as Jesus' self-reference, and his disturbance of the temple(Mk 11:15-19). In particular, the latter is crucial in the argument of the article. Since it is certain that Jesus demonstrates a symbolic action for the destruction of the temple, we should believe that Jesus' self-understanding was not a temple-cleanser but a temple-abolisher, the one who was above the authority of the temple and whose authority was equivalent to that of God, the establisher of the place.
