초록

이 논문은 현대시조에 나타난 생태 공동체주의적 특성을 밝히는 데 목적을 둔다. 기존의 고시조는 음풍농월과 물아일체와 같은 자연친화적 성격이 두드러졌다. 현대시조에 와서 이러한 특성은 환경위기와 물질문명에 대한 비판으로 확장된다.
논의의 범위를 생태학의 여러 분야 중에서도 생태 공동체주의에 국한하는 것은, 생태 공동체주의가 자연과 인간의 구분이라는 이분법을 비판하고, 우주에 대해 전체론적으로 사고하여 자연을 독립적인 존재로 인식하기 때문이다. 따라서 생태 공동체주의는 자연을 이상적인 규제자로 규정하며, 인간을 포함한 전지구가 생명그물을 이루고 있다고 본다. 이와 같은 관점은 현대사회의 생태위기를 극복하기 위한 근본적인 해결방안이 된다.
생태 공동체주의는 인간 중심적인 사고에서 탈피하고 모든 생명체가 같은 위치에서 공동체를 이루고 있다고 주장한다. 이를 기반으로 한 생명지역주의는 인간이 토지, 동․식물과 같은 자연 환경 요소와 어우러져 정주민의 문화와 생활방식이 형성된다고 말한다. 현대시조에도 생명지역을 소재로 정주민의 전통과 문화, 정서를 반영하는 작품과 생명지역을 지키기 위한 원주민의 노력을 담은 일군의 작품이 있다.
한편, 생태 공동체주의에는 공동체적 연대를 이루어 인간이 보다 나은 삶을 영위하게 되는 염원이 담겨 있다. 권위에 의한 억압과 불평등을 극복하려는 의지와 화합을 통하여 유토피아적인 공동체를 형성하고자하는 욕망을 표현한 작품을 찾을 수 있다.
이처럼 고전 양식에서 출발한 시조는 시대의 변화에 발맞추어 가치성을 공고히 해 왔다. 뿐만 아니라 시조는 현대사회가 고민하고 있는 생태위기에 대한 반성과 성찰을 작품을 통해 실천하고 있다.

영어초록

This study intends to determine the ecological communitarian characteristics of modern sijo. The classic sijo intensely manifested nature-friendly characteristics such as “Communion with Nature” and “Unity with Nature.” Such characteristics were extended to the criticism against the environmental crisis and material civilization in modern sijo.
The reason the scope of discussion was limited to ecological communitarianism among various fields of ecology is that ecological communitarianism rejects the dichotomy of dividing nature and man and sees the nature as an independent existence by regarding the universe holistically. In other words, ecological communitarianism defines the nature as an ideal regulator and considers that the entire earth including man forms the net of life. This viewpoint becomes the fundamental solution for overcoming the ecological crisis of the modern society.
There are modern sijo pieces that were influenced by the nature- friendly characteristics of the classic sijo and show ecological communitarian characteristics. Ecological communitarianism does away with anthropocentirc thoughts and argues that all lives form the community in the same position. The bio-regionalism based on this states that the culture and lifestyle of settlers are formed while man mixes with natural environmental elements such as the land, animals, and plants. A group of modern sijo pieces reflect the tradition, culture, and sentiment of settlers based on bio-region and indigenous people’s efforts to protect the bio-region.
On the other hand, the anarchistic elements are inherent in the ecological communitarianism, and therefore, it rejects possession, pursues freedom, and wishes to realize the utopia where communities live together in harmony. Modern sijo contains the great wish for man to have a better life by forming a communal solidarity. Also, anarchist poets wrote sijo pieces that exposed the suppression and grief under Japanese occupation and aspired for freedom. The reason they externalized their will to be liberated from Japanese rule through a style of poem, sijo, is deemed to be based on the usefulness of the style of sijo which has the beauty of condensation.
Sijo started from classical style and has enhanced its value along with the changes of the times. Furthermore, sijo practices the reflection and introspection on ecological crisis that the modern society suffers from.
